Game Changer
Using this dodow has been an absolute game changer for me. I have phases where my sleep is significantly disturbed due to the stresses associated with providing an intense caring role within the family. In times of heightened stress, I find it hard to mentally switch off and can feel very anxious at night with a horrible sense of impending doom. Once in this cycle, I can go weeks on end with a very disturbed sleep pattern. The dodow was suggested to me by a therapist and has been such a fantastic tool for me to use. The light that radiates on the ceiling is calming and soft, and quite quickly calms my breathing down to a rate that is conducive to falling asleep. I find that I’m preoccupied with looking at the light and so I forget about the worries of the day and instead, pay attention to my breathing. I use the longer setting which requires me to do a simple ‘double tap’ and I find that eventually, whilst the light is still pulsing, I turn to my side and fall asleep. I would definitely recommend this device - I was dubious when it was first recommended to me but actually, simple sometimes works and if anything can help to earn anyone some well needed sleep, it’s definitely worth a try!! It’s nicely packaged, has an attractive simple design and comes with batteries. It takes minutes to get started without much brain power involved, which is absolutely necessary when you’re sleep deprived!

Works for me
The first question is: does it work? Yes, yes it does. At least, it works for me. The principle is pretty simple and well proven - regulating your breathing helps to induce relaxation. You time your breathing to the device and you'll soon nod off to sleep. It gives you something to focus your attention on and the enclosed booklet (I got one in English) gives a few more tips too. The next question is - is it worth the money? Getting a good night's sleep is invaluable, so from that point of view it's definitely worth it. On the other hand, the hardware is pretty simple. There are no fancy optics to make the spot grow and shrink, it just makes the LEDs brighter and dimmer. No doubt a lot of research and development has gone into making this device, it seems to be made of quality materials and it does what it claims, but £44 seems an awful lot of money for three LEDs, a micro controller and some batteries. Having said that, psychology is weird so if they cut corners on manufacturing and sold really cheap nobody would believe it would work - and that includes you, no matter how rational you think you are. It's not perfect though. The light actually appears fairly bright if you dim the lights before bed as I do, and there's no way to alter the maximum brightness. The batteries are jammed in pretty tight; they come pre-installed and should last a while, but eventually you'll need to change them and it won't be as easy as you might expect. The manual is careful to explain that you shouldn't touch the touch sensor part when changing the batteries, but given the entire top is touch sensitive that could be awkward. While it certainly helps you get to sleep, it doesn't make you go to bed in the first place. It's 0:55 and I have work in the morning. Why on Earth am I writing reviews on Amazon? And you, what are you doing reading it? It's late! Go to bed. If you can't get to sleep, come back and order this pretty little gadget to help you get some much needed kip.

Easy to use and effective sleep aid device!
If you are looking to improve your sleep with no meds in short time, this is what you need. At first I was sceptical but now I am so glad I bought this device, which is super easy to use and I started sleeping better after one week. It needs 3x AAA batteries and these are included in the pack. At the back of the device you'll find two options: 8min and 20min mode. As I used to toss and turn untill 4am every night I went for the 20min cycle and did that for a week when I noticed significant improvement and so I moved to the 8min now. Instructions are easy to follow and once the programme is over the device switches off automatically. You may wish to set a sleep schedule as going to sleep at the same time every day helps manage your routine otherwise there are no miracle cures to insomnia but if you are willing to put some work to help yourself this device boosts your efforts significantly! I tried sleeping pills and anxiety meds before and they work when you take them and when you stop you are back tossing and turning entire night to eventually get two hours of sleep in the morning to wake up completely exhausted. Dodow is for people looking for long term lasting solutions and I could not recommend this device enough- it is a life changer! I now have more energy, I wake up refreshed and can focus on work tasks during the day. Best investment ever!

Great idea, poor product
I had seen the bad product reviews on Amazon but thought I would give this a try. I get to sleep pretty well but something to destress and relax before sleep is a nice idea. The item is nicely packaged, reminiscent of Apple products and there is a small wad of instructions covering lots of European languages. The Dodow comes complete with everything you need to get started including 3 AAA batteries. The Dodow consists of a small coffee coaster size disc around 1cm deep. The top is 'touch sensitive' and from the top there are the 3 blue LEDs that create the blue light on your ceiling. There are no switches or any other controls and there is exactly the problem. There are minimal instructions, on/off, 3 light settings and 8/20 min programme; simple enough you might think, not so. All issues from what I can make out span from the 'touch sensitive' controls, this is not smart phone touch sensitivity far from it. The instructions make reference to 'tapping' the top of the device to control but a gentle tap is insufficient, as is a touch, somewhere inbetween is the sweet spot. It also employs some time sentitive controls eg 'tap and hold for 3 seconds', sometimes this registers other times not, or its just faulty. Generally the Dodow is a let down, looks great but terrible controls. And not worth trying it out for the hassle of having to return it.

Reasonably helpful device.
Even before using this product I was aware of the usefulness of breathing exercise as a form of meditative relaxation to aid sleep and often found this a useful way to combat insomnia. This little unit helps to achieve this by giving you a non-intrusive light aid. I have used it several times and found it to be reasonably useful in maintaining breathing, especially as in the dark it is easy to lose concentration. It would be perfect for me if you could somehow direct the beam as having my bed-side in a corner means that the beam is kind of squashed between the walls and ceiling. That could be solved by moving the unit of course, but as I said it would be great if there was a way to direct the beam so I didn't have to. All in all quite a nice unit but at the end of the day it's basically just a pulsing light. You could probably get an app to do the same thing on your phone. I do think it's quite expensive for what it is and I'm not entirely sure it's worth the money. I suppose it depends on your personal taste and ease of access.

Insomnia from an early age... I never leaves reviews but
I've suffered with insomnia from such a young age around 6 I believe. I have tried and tested everything possible even sleeping tablets and industrial strength benzodiazepenes (which I would like to stop taking at some point) therapy, cbt and everything in between! Last week I ordered this light machine along with a lavender spray and an alarm clock that wakes you up more naturally. I decided I finally had to sort out some kind of routine and give 'sleep hygiene a go'. The first night using the dodow felt a little strange and unnatural. It weirdly made my ears pop but I persevered for almost an hour and was still wide awake BUT I felt so so relaxed. I managed three hours that first night. Second night I popped the machine on and again my body felt very relaxed but my brain was very much awake, still four hours sleep was better than none. Third night of my sleep hygiene routine and I realised it was yet again my brain stopping me from sleeping so once the dodow had turned off I continued to say the words inhale/exhale in my head whilst breathing 'normal' I feel like this distracted my brain enough to not overthink and switch off. I slept for an amazing 5 hours or so. Fourth night I did the same again kept repeating the words inhale/exhale after the dodow had switched off. My sleep that night (logged by my fitness watch) 6 hours and 56 minutes!! I am so amazed that something so simple would actually help in what feels like a battle to switch off my brain. Obviously it is early days but for me switching all screens off 1 hour before bed, dimming the lights down low then reading with a milky hot chocolate (the tea didn't taste too nice) before heading for bed really helped. I spray my pillow spray and settle down with my dodow. If I do not fall asleep twenty minutes after the machine has turned off I simply go to another room read again for half an hour and repeat. Also going to bed and getting up at the same time is important to get a good routine. I don't usually leave reviews and I think this is the longest one I have ever written and all just to say this little light is pretty amazing! Hope this helps someone who understands the struggles of insomnia.

Didn't work for us... unfortunately
2020 was something of a massively life affecting year for myself & my wife, we went through quite a lot of difficult life circumstances all of which had a huge bearing on the quantity & quality of sleep we were having. We'd both fallen into a horrible routine of going to bed, being unable to fall asleep for hours & when we did eventually fall asleep we'd literally get a broken 2-hour sleep and be awake again - just until it was time for the alarm to go off. We'd tried multiple fixes - including making changes to the bedroom, buying new bedding, listening to podcasts (which did help a bit!), trying 'guaranteed' breathing techniques (it didn't work - so not guaranteed!) & various other online suggestions, but nothing seemed to work... so after spotting the Dodow device & reading through the reviews it felt definitely worth a try, even if the results did sound quite mixed from person to person. When it arrived the unboxing did feel quite a treat - it's beautifully packaged, comes with simple instructions & everything you need to get going... we placed it on one of bedside tables and begin to try the breathing methods focusing on the dot that the device produces - for us the light was fine, it isn't supposed to be a pin-sharp projector device, more a fuzzy low light, basically something to focus your attention on and lower (and deepen) your breathing in unison with. The first night was relatively successful - we fell asleep quite quickly & we were over the moon.... granted we didn't stay asleep all night, but small steps and all that! Sadly, it didn't continue on previous nights... I think the fact we were probably that tired on night 1 the device had a false 'win', as no matter how many times we tried it, it just didn't have the same effect... gutted really as we thought it would have been just what we needed. Admittedly we had a LOT going on in our lives around this time & maybe our expectations of what it could do was way above what it should have been... we were exhausted with simply not being able to go to sleep & hoped this would be the miracle cure. We persevered with it over a month, but it just didn't work for us, so sadly we had to return it. My conclusion is if you're lightly suffering from lack of sleep, perhaps due to anxiety reasons or something where your breathing needs to be a little more relaxed & you're struggling to do this on your own then you might get some positive joy from using this - whereas if you're really in the thick of some nasty insomnia then you might get similar results to me.

Molto consigliato

It’s part physiological and greatly psychological!
I do like the blue light as it gives me something to look at whilst concentrating on my breathing. I only use it when I have difficulty getting to sleep. I find it helps me to relax and of course whilst concentrating on my breathing I am not thinking about anything at all which is what it is supposed to do. The deep breathing is also very good for my lungs and I appreciate that as well. I also like the size of it, it being small makes it easier to pack when going on holiday etc. All in all, I am delighted with it and am really glad I bought it!

Change of heart
7/7/19 getting the pulse back was a simple matter of turning the machine off and on. It continues to help me sleep. I often wake up at 2:30 am. Without the Dodow I might as well put the coffee on. With it I can go back to sleep. I have yet to last the full 8 minutes before wanting to sleep. 5/15/19 the device stopped working last night, It no longer pulses but just gives a steady blue light. Unable to return due to time limitation. If the vendor sees this, please let me know if I might be doing something wrong. Original Review it usually works. Seems overpriced for what it is but not for what it does. Worth a try for anyone with sleep problems.
