Behringer HB-01 Hell Babe Wah

This was an impulsive purchase, and probably the best I've ever made! I'm building a budget board, and have a few other behringer pedal's to add to this. Don't bother with the Behringer Reverb pedal, it's reverbs are nasty! The Vintage tube overdrive is audibly identical to my original Ibanez tube screamer at £20 it's literally unbeatable!! Firstly, the fact you have so many adjustment is just awesome! They all work and have brilliant response values. You also have a boost function, which is just fantastic to cut through your mix. It took some time to get used to the optical 'ness of this pedal and one thing I noticed is that as you rock your heel to toe I was turning the wah off and cutting to bypass, but guess what, you can adjust the trail of the effect too, so turn the pedal over and just turn the dial with a screwdriver and adjust to lengthen the time the wah stays active, thus meaning even if you fully depress your heel in full EVH mode it doesn't just cut out and sound amateur. Usually analogue Wah's require a hard press to deactivate/activate the effect, and took some time to get used to this being optical, but Behringer have already thought of this. It's well built, even if it is plastic, all the knobs feel positive and the action of the pedal is nice and light. You can adjust the tension of the pedal, but I found for me I just got used to it. Overall, I'm hugely impressed with this pedal, it's incredible value, well built and packaged, hugely adjustable which you don't get for three times the price and it's sounds legit! Buy it, you will not be disappointed. Just a note, being optical, you cannot leave the pedal down for the screaming trebles, but with a good compressor you can achieve this if you know what you are doing with effect's. Have you bought it yet?!

For a sub £40 pedal this impressed me. You get a great deal of control here with a variable shelf filter, a volume boost that you can work with your toe, and attack and Q controls on the side of the unit. The negatives are that there is a distinct thud when the unit engages. Not mechanical as the pedal switches on just by moving the footpad slightly. In a band going at full throttle it probably wouldn’t be noticed by anyone other than you, but still a bit annoying. Possibly some tweaking of the controls would help mitigate this. Also it ain’t no CryBaby, so don’t expect wakka-wakka clean tones as crisp as that. It’s not bad , it’s just not built for that. The clue is in its name . Hellbabe. And that is apt as it makes your solo scream like a horny angel. Long sweeping sustain and a bit of practise on the HB will totally transform your lead playing. I have several amps and pedal boards-one with a Morley, another with a CryBaby, another with an EHX riddle and expression pedal, and a rack unit with floorboard which I mainly have a Clyde wah programmed in. The Hellbabe doesn’t sound like ANY of these. And good thing too as when you have the right settings dialled in it really does inspire. Think Dazed And Confused with smooth creamy sustain. I usually gig with Orange amps but I bought this to put in front of my Boss Katana 100. (I find the separate expression pedal a pain to switch on and off). And they love each other. Really... Build quality is ok but I would have paid another fiver to have all metal chassis but the plastic they use is pretty tough. The bottom line? Yes. It’s a good buy. It’s built to a budget but as long as you don’t usually throw fx pedals across the room it should do fine. If I lost this one I would buy another. Remarkable pedal.

I've been playing guitar for over 25 years & in that time I've tried most effects & pedals. This wah pedal is fantastic...in fact it has replaced my favourite vox wah permanently.... I've even compared it to the Ibanez weeping demon & it still comes out on top. The beauty lies in the hellbabes eq that can shape the hellbabes sound, plus the booster switch that acts like a turbo to a already supercharged pedal. The endless choices of sound shaping will satisfy most players styles. Although the construction is plastic it is still very tough & durable. My vox has been replaced twice in the same amount of time I've had my hellbabe. The optical control it uses instead of the old fashioned pots means the end of the wear & tear that usually sends a wah pedal to an early grave. The easy to reach / release battery compartment means no more removing the base to gain access to change the 9 volt ... Very handy when gigging. One of the best features is the auto on/off feature. With old wah pedals (crybaby, vox etc) you have to press down hard on the 'toe' area to switch it on with a annoying click, that comes straight through the amp to tell everyone listening that the guitar player going to use their wah pedal. But with the hellbabe the pedal becomes active as soon as you dip the pedal forwards...and automatically switches off again when the pedal returns to its rest position....very very handy!! The pedal also has a timer setting so for this function so the on/off time can be delayed if required. The pedal itself has a spring to keep it in the off position but this can be easily removed & returned if needed. The two LED lights at the back of the pedal serve for both battery level indication & pedal activation, the other is for the booster switch, handy if you don't need it on for any track or song. I can't praise this pedal enough...its a giant killer for less than quarter of the price of some of the big boys out there. I always determine anything I buy with one simple question....would I buy another....& the answer is yes....this is the second one I have bought for my home recording...my other which I purchased nearly two years ago is still going strong.

It is a good wah pedal, check the youtube mod page as you'll need to go through with setting it up properly. Shame they don't come set up as it should be but it's cheap and does a good job afterwards. Liking the tone control and it feels sturdy enough. The boost seems to do little to the sound.

I'm updating this review to reflect how my opinion has changed over time: this is the best Wah for bass currently being sold, regardless of price. As with most Behringer products this is massively underpriced even with the budget cutting materials. It doesn't feel weak or tacky, I have a Morley too and even though it's basically two slabs of material that you can jump on if you like I don't feel anxious when I switch to the behringer, it's solid. I use many wahs in many wahs. The hellbabe goes so well after my distortion chain, I can either avoid the upper range by using the frequency control or control that fuzz and get some excellent bass stabs that cut through when I need them to. It isn't as fun on its own as my Morley or My George Dennis but as part of a chain this pedal is so versatile and truly works as a true bass wah or as a lead wah for distorted bass that sits high in the mix. As you can see from my photos I have a good frame of reference. Most of my pedals are Boss, EHX or they are amazing pedals from companies that are famous in other areas, like Fender or Marshall. Behringer pedals hold their own, this and the tube modeller are overpowered for their price, and the sansamp copy isn't awful either.

I thought the wah effect from the pedal was great. Unfortunately when I press the pedal there is an audible click and the sound drops out before the effects start. It’s annoying enough to be unusable for me.

Good value, and greta wah sound. Easy to switch between wah and no wah wah. One small thing, you need to disconnect the battery if you don't want to drain it instantly when not in use

The real problem with this pedal is its control characteristics. The heel down end of the pedal travel is taken up switching the effect on, and it comes on and off in a rather disconcerting way, then the actual wah sweep is all compressed into just a few degrees near the toe down position. Either Behringer have a hard time making the shape of the optical shutter produce smooth and consistent results in production, or they just didn't spend long enough engineering the optical sweep components. Its a shame, its based around the original CryBaby / VOX circuit, so it has the potential to sound authentic and has a number of useful added features. Yes as others have repeated it has a plastic case, but it is quite strong. The apparent heft of the pedal comes from an internal weight, a thick steel plate welded to the thinner baseplate. Internal construction is good with decent quality components mounted on three glass fibre PCBs. I shall try modifying the shape of the hole in the optical shutter to see if I can get a smoother sweep.

I looked through a lot of wah pedals before ultimately going with the Behringer Hellbabe, as much as I wanted a Morley Bad Horsie, I don't think I could have justified the price difference. Why did I go with the Behringer? - At least $30 - $50 cheaper than the next competitors - Optical control means no scratchy pots, ever - Has Q controls and an adjustable boost, only found on very high end wah pedals otherwise. - Step-on step-off control instead of a button The build quality is pretty nice all around - yes it is plastic, but it has a heavy metal base and rubber grip and doesn't feel cheap, although all-metal would be nicer of course. The sound quality is more than acceptable, other wahs are arguably better, but really it's all personal preference, and this one is adjustable if you don't love the sound! The step-on/off feature is great for quickly switching back and forth and also won't wear out like a button. However, it does sometimes switch back when you don't want it to when you're in the heel-down position, which can be a little annoying. The boost feature is handy and can add up to a 10 dB boost or a bit more gain, which can be pretty useful, especially for soloing. Ultimately I'd say that if you want a wah pedal and you're on a tight budget, the Behringer Hellbabe is probably the best choice out there, and almost certainly the most versatile. It doesn't have quite the same prestige or build quality, but hell, it costs half as much and all the other features are great to have. For what it is, I'd give it 9/10 stars, and recommend it to musicians on a budget, or anyone wanting another wah pedal to change things up a bit. Aldığım fiyat üzerinden (Ağustos 2023 - 1650₺) eleştiri yapmak içimden gelmiyor, çünkü karşılaştırabileceğiniz başka bir wah pedalı yok. Fiyatının 2 katına bile değer olduğunu düşünüyorum öncelikle. Frekans aralığına Boost/Q/Fine düğmeleri ile ince ayarlar yapabiliyorsunuz. Pedalın sevmediğim tek özelliği aralığının kısa olması, ama o kısa aralığı 5 kademeli başka bir 'Range' potansı ile daha büyük parçalara bölebiliyorsunuz. Bunların haricinde boost seçeneği de var.
