Using Sky or NowTV? It's a cinch to switch
Purchased this on the recommendation of another Amazon review as I was switching to NowTV and had heard it could be a little tricky. The NowTV router is the previous generation Sky model which in itself is reasonable. The NowTV router suffered from an issue to do with maximum number of devices connected which didn't manifest itself on the current gen Sky router so I decided to invest in something better. This has a plethora of options, was so easy to set up, I have a 4TB usb external drive connected to it and it auto configured it, there's options for IPTV, splitting the bands into 2.4/5ghz should you wish, the device management and parental controls are straightforward (how I hated Sky Broadband Buddy and never felt convinced by it). I can restrict access based off time, keywords, domain, ensure QoS demands for the TV. It's inoffensive to look at and doesn't look as if someone has parked a stealth fighter in the room. The coverage is good for my house (it's not huge so I couldn't say how it would be in a larger house) but has options for mesh networking too. Honestly if I had realised how easy it was to switch to this when I had Sky I would have used this straight off. It's good enough that several family members have purchased them and are using them in place of the routers sent with BT/Vodafone based off the positive experience. All in all it does the job, does it well, is simple to use and was a trouble free install.

Good Modem, worth the money, but most "extra features" are pointless.
This review is for the VR-600 type 2 (aka AC1600 II). I should also say that I got this quite cheap from a third party sale, £60 plus £1.92 postage, for an opened box. When I tried to set it up, it demanded a password, but first time it should have prompted me for one of my choosing. It had clearly been used, and I had to press the "reset" button, and after that I was able to set it up. I have to say it's fairly solid in operation. One feature I couldn't use is the "5G" wireless, the internal walls in our flat totally defeated the 5G signal. However, the 2.4G signal was much better, and we can now get a reasonable signal in our bedroom, we couldn't with our previous router. It an old brick-built maisonette, and the signal has to pass through 2 brick-built walls and a solid concrete ceiling to get from the router to the bedroom, so that's a plus. Even though the "signal strength" seems to drop on its indicator, it still continues to work, with our previous modem it would keep dropping. Setting it up was straightforward. Later I was able to locate, amongst the "Advanced Settings" a place to allocate all our domestic stuff, including TV, phone, computer, a fixed IP address. It tends to keep connections more stable, and means that you can do more within the network. I've not been able to work out what this TP-Link Cloud is all about yet, seems that a lot of pointless nonsense, I've not been able to find a use for it at all. I was hoping that maybe I could download files from the USB drive plugged in, or use the wirelessly connected printer, but no. All in all, a good modem, does the job, but the so-called "Extras" are mostly a waste of time and effort for me. Loses a star because the signal strength isn't quite what was expected from reviews (though better than the ISP router), and the 5G connection, for me, caused more problems than it was worth, so I disabled it, and for the hype. Glad I bought it though.

Router to replace Sky or NowTV equipment - with dramatic speed and coverage of signal gains
I like as shown in the pictures attached how sleek it is, as well as how dramatically it will increase your fibre optic broadband speeds when used to replace a router issued by your ISP (internet company). If they are selling you “Fibre” it is 98% of all installs going to be FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) then copper from there but indeed this offers huge gains across the board. Sadly these gains are hampered by extremely poor quality routers which ISP’s keep sending you out to plug ins and it never will. This is simply because these modem routers are sent out free of cost and as such are sourced for the very cheapest price possible, thus you get what you pay for. This Router I recommend for anyone really since it has never been switched off and has doubled my speed, my old “nowTV” router was reset several times per day. So would encourage anyone with Sky internet or NowTV internet to get this router since it works on their network (many do not but tp-link generally have the option 61 MER required in order to connect). So couldn’t be happier and would recommend to literally everyone with fibre optic high speed broadband - so long as it is FTtC (fibre to the cabinet) also known as “VDSL” then it will work with any U.K. ISP. Where it won’t work is FTTP (fibre to the premises) but that is a whole different story altogether and are almost exclusively reserved for businesses due to how expensive installation and billing is. If any one needs help setting up feel free to contact me and I’ll gladly help.

Really brilliant modem/router
Very easy to install and set-up. Connected to my ISP within seconds after completing Internet User and password details. Stable, reliable connection. Offers phone app for remote controlling and speed testing. I switched off smart connect which automatically switches your connected items between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz purely because my Brother Printer dropped offline a few times, but with two completely differently names SSID's I've had no issues. If you are a TalkTalk customer and have their modem/router, and getting unreliable connection problems, this will sort things in minutes and give you great speeds, reliable and stable connection. Wall mountable option if you need it. Good WIFI range and covers all areas of my semi-detached, including a large area of front and rear garden too. Smart clean style and options to switch off the LED lights on the face plate if you have it somewhere that they might distract you. Basic and advanced user interfaces, simple access with password protected option. Also offers Guest wifi if you want to limit access to your own connected items for visitors using your wifi.

Very impressed so far! Should have changed from crap BT Home Hub sooner.
So far after a couple of days absolutely superb. Struggled for two years with the absolutely dreadful BT HH5, numerous attempts to have BT replace it due to the numerous wifi issues, having to reset the router on average twice a day. Separating the bands etc etc didn't help, the 5ghz wifi just doesn't work on the HH5. Even through contract renewal I tried to get them to replace with the new smarthub but they wouldn't do it. Unfortunately I am stuck with BT due to lack of capacity at the cabinet, so moving to another supplier would mean losing my slot and reverting back to 3mb 'broadband'. Eventually got so bad with the HH5 I thought sack it, spend the money and be happy. After researching around I settled on this Archer VR600, and I am very happy I did! Unplugged the HH5, plugged in the Archer, logged on to the ip address from laptop and went through the 4 or 5 stage set up process. Selected BT from the dropdown and put in the standard BT username (no password) and 2 mins later all up and running, no hassle at all. Actual broadband connection to the cabinet based on stats is just as strong if not stronger/faster than the HH5. Wifi is night and day difference, channels are auto separated from setup and rock solid. Absolutely everything in the house, from smart TV ro Sonos etc etc all working much more quickly and more stable. So refreshing to be able to do a speed test at any time and get much closer to the 'up to' speed of my connection. Up to 76mb generally means 60mb over wifi for me due to distance from cabinet. HH5 managed this SOMETIMES, 8 times out of 10 if on the 5ghz band this would stumble around the 4-8mb range, or just not work. 2.4ghz band also was affected. No such issues with the Archer, very impressed so far!

Dissapointing
I bought this to replace my Virgin hub, as the Wifi had started to drop out on a regular basis. Setup was reasonably straight forward - the only slight fiddle was setting up the virgin hub to run as a modem (which initially I forgot to do), but that's where the positives end. I ran a speed check using wifi in the spare room where my PC sits before plugging in the router (so still on the virgin hub), and measured 17.8Mbps (the speed when wired into the hub is around 100Mbps). Plugged in this device expecting it to at least match the virgin hub - it measured 0.3Mbps! Tried moving the wifi range extender I'd bought a while ago nearer the router. This time download speed didn't even register - 0.0Mbps. It can't be something I've done wrong, as the thing is working - google loaded eventually - just pathetically slow. Reminds me of the good old days of dial up! My house isn't even that big - maybe 10m from the router to the spare room? Sadly this will have to go back as I was hoping for much better. Even if it had matched the virgin speed I'd have been happy, just to have a consistent connection again, but a 60x REDUCTION in download speed for the thick end of a hundred quid!!....... I e-mailed TP-Link to try to get some help from the support people and heard nothing. I'm not going to phone as the call line charges up to 10p per minute and I imagine I'll end up on hold.

A mixed bag - reliable fibre (VDSL) router with lots of options, but don't expect 3G/4G USB to work!
I bought the Archer VR600 v2 (also known as the AC1600) to use on Plusnet Fibre broadband. My main requirements were dual band WiFi with separate SSIDs, Gigabit ethernet to connect to my NAS, 4G failover, and to act as a VPN server so I could connect remotely to my home network. In theory the VR600 v2 ticks all those boxes, in practice there are real problems with the 3G/4G USB dongle compatibility, so if that is a requirement for you then you should look elsewhere. Getting it set up and working on Plusnet was a breeze and it performed very well. I love the separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5Ghz WiFi as this gives you control over which devices connect to which band, and the built-in OpenVPN server is great too for allowing secure remote connections. The web interface is very easy to use and there are a lot of nice features. It was very reliable but after a few weeks the Ethernet ports all just died. Amazon swapped it out for a new box so no drama, I guess these things happen and the 3 year warranty covers it. For what it's worth, dealing with TP-Link support was a quite good experience. Despite this problem I was impressed with the functionality and even bought a second one for my office. They have both been rock solid, never drop connections and are really fast and solid on both the VDSL and WiFi connections. The problems started when I needed to setup 4G using a USB dongle. This router is sold as "fully compatible with DSL connections, fibre/cable access and 3G/4G USB dongles" so you'd expect it to work. The reality is that if you visit the TP-Link support page for "3G/4G USB Modem Compatibility List for Archer VR600" you will see there are NO supported 3G/4G dongles listed for the UK. After speaking to TP-Link support, it seems it MIGHT support a few dongles but they couldn't provide a list of them and basically leave it down to the user to buy a dongle, try it, and hope for the best. I tried a couple of Huawei dongles but neither was recognised. So, if you're looking for 3G/4G failover then look elsewhere. Fortunately Amazon have agreed to a return of my unit on the basis that it is misrepresented. Good an Amazon, shame on TP-Link.

Router is working better
Review update. ******* I am updating my review to 4 stars as I have managed to solve the issues with the 5G radio. The problem is sorted and could been caused by updating the network card on my laptop, I found this info on tplink Australias web forum. But I believe the real fix is disabling Google Casting on your devices, when casting starts it floods the network with packets causing WiFi radios to drop. Since I've disabled this on my phone I haven't had the problem. So in general now the router is fine Very unhappy with this router. "Original Review" I installed this router on December 1st as a replacement for a TP-Link Archer C2. So far this router has totally under performed. The main issue is with the 5ghz radio, Every few days the 5g networks stops accepting connections and sometimes disappears, The only solution is to reboot the router. I have yet to achieve the Link Speeds advertised, The highest speed achieved on 5G is 850mbps which is fantastic but this usually drops to 433 which was easily attained on my previous router, I have not got near the advertised 1300mbps. I have also had problems connecting my laptop via Ethernet cable also, again a reboot fixed the problem. I have seen a reduction in performance in my ring doorbell and some other of my smart devices. I am going to give this router another week and see can I workout some of the issues, But I think the outcome will be this router going back. The problems with this router are undoubtedly caused by bad software, Problems with Hardware don't fix themselves, The problems with this router occur every few days and a reboot fixes it. Would not recommend
