## Description

Beurer TL40 Daylight Lamp SAD Light : desertcart.co.uk: Health & Personal Care

Review: Reviewed this product to the extremes, take note! - I work offshore in the uk and doing 3 weeks on nightshift especially in the winter, I don't see sunlight at all for 3 weeks. In the summer because most oil rigs are north of Aberdeen and Sheltlands you get sunlight nearly 24 hours but even in the summer months we are still inside most of the time in a pressurised accommodation out of bright sunlight, the differences between nightshift and dayshift are huge and I can truly say that these SAD lamps work. I can see people being sceptical but I am at the extremes of this research to notice big differences in my health so I do notice the big changes before and after using it. Before doing a 2-3 week trip on dayshift through a winter and then the following year in nightshift many times over 20 years I do notice a huge difference in my mood, fitness and health between the 2. It has effected my health and family life at home when I go on to nights, I think I have much experience and references to give this a great review because I've been doing this for 20 years and once I started to use this lamp to help flip my circadian Rythum around and adapting back at home after a 3 weeker has probably saved my life long term, saved my young children see me tired and cranky on my quality time off. The sad lamp really works and for someone who uses it just to help a little who may be sceptical you can take comfort in knowing it really does work and long term could really make you look back and smile more. SAD a big problem I think and if you can feel less tired, cynical, stressed and depressed just a little from this smallest routine change then I think it's worth its money in gold. If I have a few trips offshore on nightshift I notice my mood deteriorating my wife thinks I'm a different person and over the years we always seems to argue when I went on nights even in the summer months if it was winter months it was worse. Over time I noticed my relationship sink to the point where I knew it was the nightshift and decided to leave the industry. Bit then I refuse to do nightshift again. But after a few years on dayshift and my relationship thrived again and scars healed I got asked to do nights so I knew I had to try the SAD lamp and give it a go, it want me who noticed the difference it was my wife she noticed my mood was positive and happier straight away. It happens all the way through winter and then the heliport said I couldn't take it offshore because it wasn't PAT tested but then that trip I went south pretty quick and then my wife noticed that I was back to being miserable and negative so I made sure I alway have it. It's a great product, light and durable perfect for offshore when your weight is limited for offshore travel. Can't recommend it enough. The oil industry hasn't caught on to this SAD problems where I believe it's a predominately a male industry where men are dubious to admit they are depressed and fatigued during their trip offshore because it may question their manhood however even living with people you don't know for 3 weeks causes a lot of friction and since the oil industry changed to 3 week trips it's beginning to become a huge problem. There is so much to fix but for now this has probably saved my life because the work life balance you get from working offshore is great and why most do it to have that quality time with their family.
Review: Bright, wonderful, cheering and an anti-depressant in the short days of Winter - Bought this for my husband, who finds Winter really depressing, as a Christmas present. After the initial - "what's this for?" - we have been amazed at the difference it has made. We hadn't realized how dingy our back living room was, until we started using this and in fact, we've all benefitted, as we now just switch it on in the morning early - around 6.30 am - and leave it on until about 8.30 am, when it starts to get light. It seems very bright at first, but then on further use, it doesn't any more, but just gives the glow and warmth of a nice Spring morning. It illuminates the whole room in a really pleasant way. We do try to make the practice of sitting staring into it for a few minutes at a time, but it does the trick, just having it on at all, like a very good lamp. If nothing else, you could see it as a Winter lamp, just providing amazing light to read by in the early morning. Very good value - has really made this Winter so much less depressing. I would recommend, even if you don't suffer from depression. A word of warning though, my Mum, who has had cataract operations found it unbearable, so I wouldn't recommend for someone, who has had any procedures on the eye.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what lux is thislight please?**
A: According to their website: "Simulation of sunlight: Intensity of light approx. 10.000 Lux (at a distance of 15 - 20 cm)". I don't understand why they haven't got this info on here. It's probably the most important factor of the product.

**Q: Does this lamp make reading easier in winter? - Chris**
A: The light is white and very bright. According to the manufacturers, it needs to be really close for about an hour to counteract SAD, needing more time if further away. I read by it when the room is in total darkness and prefer the white light to a standard light bulb but be aware that it is not like an overhead/bedside light in that the light is directional (from the front not all around) and so needs positioning (a desk lamp allows varied positioning of the light which this unit does not, but it is a lot brighter which means I can easily read by it). It can also be hung on the wall which I find especially useful. Another important feature is the stability of the light as apparently a lot of the more economical SAD lights tend to flicker, which this light does not. The unit throws out quite a lot of heat, which the manufacturers say is normal. I have used this for several months now and am really pleased with it. I hope this helps you.

**Q: Is it main's operated or battery? If it's main's, how long is the lead?**
A: Hi, its mains operated. The lead would be about 3' long.

**Q: Can you replace lamp when it expires? And is this process expensive?**
A: The manufacturer`s replacement fluorescent tube is available with the order number 162.242 from Beurer customer support. I am not sure how much the bulbs are, but Beurer customer services will be able to let you know.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A good quality, effective lamp
*by J***D on 20 January 2017*

I have been using the lamp daily for a week, which is the recommended period for it to take effect, and have to report that it does appear to have made a difference. It seems to have started chasing away those winter blues. It claims to do this by regulating the production of melatonin and serotonin. I'll certainly carry on using it. For it to be effective, you have to get pretty close to the lamp - if you're going to use it for an hour at a time you need to be about a foot away from it. If you're eight inches away, you only need half an hour. I've found that the best way to achieve this is to stand it on a non-slip tray placed on your lap and carry on watching TV or whatever you wish to do without moving too much. I notice that an earlier reviewer said the lamp did not come with a UK plug. Beurer must have taken heed as it now comes with a fitted UK plug/adaptor. The lamp comes with a comprehensive instruction manual, which tells you everything you need to know, even advising you not to put the lamp in a washing machine! The lamp is good quality and I highly recommend it.
