Can these be used for books?

No I don’t believe so. It’s not strong enough to support books. I used mine for makeup and skincare products as well as spice rack.

I believe you can use two together.

Can you use this for a shrine or an altar?

If whatever your icons you put on it fit in terms of size & weight, I suppose it could. I use mine to display Funko Pop figures if that helps in determining size. I have 7 total figures on two shelves (3 & 4 respectively) & they fit nicely.

Is the top of the black panel a glossy finish?

My shelves have a smooth glossy finish, like the finish on a glossy photo.

Muy útil y compacto ( pediré otro )

Yo lo compre principalmente para ordenar mi colección de Funko pops y es muy útil para ellos ( aun que no está pensado para ello). Las piezas son buenas y de calidad ( no se pandea por el peso ). El único detalle es que las instrucciones pueden no ser tan claras pero es muy intuitivo para armar.
