Review: Really do make a difference! - I have cooked many, many cakes and whilst I would like to say that I waste a lot by cutting them level I do not. because what actually happens is I eat the pieces I cut off. which is not really a problem for me but when I have to cut a cake at its lowest point to level it off I often have to bake an extra sponge to get the desired height in a complete cake. was sceptical of these strips as some of the reviews were less than complimentary but had to try them for myself, and I must say I was very impressed. I let them soak for a good 30 minutes then fastened them to the tin (you can connect several together for larger bakes if required). Anyone can explain the right way of using it? I used 9" round and 1.5 in. deep cake fan.** A: Hi, I used them on a Wilton 9"x2" springform pan. Maybe my mystake on using a sprinform pan. I followed the instructions, they do not say anything about the springform pan. Cake came out with dome, cracked in the middle, undone in the crack. Threw it out!!! The strips were starting to get burned in the inside too, I do not know why, because I followed all the instructions on how to prepared the strips, threw them too. Hope this helps **Q: Has anyone tried these with cheesecakes? Do they cut down on cracks?** A: I bake ALL of my cheesecakes in a water bath. It makes an ultra creamy cheesecake with no cracks. Take 2 large pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil and wrap around springform pan. Place pan in larger pan and pour boiling water to about 1/2 way up pan or a little more. I always add about 10 minutes to the recommended baking time. With a water-bath it doesn't hurt if you over bake it a little. When time is up turn off oven and leave in for 1 hour then remove and place on wire rack to completely cool. Run knife around edges to loosen cake from sides. **Q: With a 12 x 18 x 2 inch Wilton pan, when you cinch to tighten & have the extra strip part that goes past the fabric loop, do you just leave it loose?** A: there are two loops.....one that is stationary and the other moves.... just move that loop to the extra fabric, put it through and it will hold that in place **Q: Do you have to extend the baking times when using these wraps.** A: No, just bake as usual.
