Slightly odd question - how thick is the rule? I'm wondering if I can use my 30cm steel ruler with it too. Thanks!

You may not be able to use your 30cm rule as the rule part needs a rebate in it to locate the tightening screw.

mine arrived very louse and wobbly when unscrewed, is that normal ?

Yes, when unscrewed it loosens the grip on the ruler to allow for easy movement. Once you tighten it when you have selected the size you want it will go back to giving you a right angle.
