Does it work outside?

Yes, it does work outside but in bright daylight it could be difficult to see the laser dot against some darker materials. To overcome this, tape a sheet of white paper on the target if possible.

Does this measure in mm?

Not specifically, but as the display is normally in metres to 3 decimal places you can simple ignore the decimal point and read 1.728 m as 1728mm.

What is the country of manufacture?

Not sure But as a builder I would say it’s very accurate and seems to be of good quality

How accurate is this over small distances (e.g. I want to measure between two internal walls about 1m apart)?

I found its more accurate over short distances than long distances. Also, just so you know, its not good outside in daylight. The device has a function to include the length of the device in its measurement or measure from when the beam originates, so it can be pretty accurate if set up right. I measured 1.4m with it and checked with a tape which confirmed it was pretty much bang on.
