Reliable and Sturdy
I've had this for about 6 weeks, and it's been very reliable. The pour is smooth, and the lid fits well and is kept firmly in place by two inner clips, so there's no danger of it falling off as I'm pouring, and there are no accidental spills. The handle is large and easy to grip, and positioned so the steam from the water doesn't burn my hand as I pour. The full kettle (1.7 litres) boils from cold in about two and a half minutes, and it's about as quiet or noisy as any other kettle I've owned – I've not heard any of the crackling noises that another review has mentioned, so possibly that kettle was a faulty one. I've had no leaks at all from it, and the automatic cut-off once the water has reached boiling point has been perfectly reliable (the on/off switch doesn't feel entirely solid, but it has been fine so far - if I do have any problems down the line, I'll update this review to reflect). There are three small red plastic water-level markers inside the kettle, so I can fill it with just enough water for one, two, or three cups, which makes up for the lack of a water-level window; I do find the lack of a water-level window to be a bit of a niggle, but the top opening is large enough to see inside whilst filling it from the tap, so it's not really a bother. Apart from these markers, the inside is all metal (and so plastic-free), so there is no plastic taste to the boiled water, which makes more of a difference to the taste of tea and coffee than I would have guessed – they taste much nicer now than when I was using a plastic kettle. Overall, the kettle and its parts (the base, the lid) are sturdy and well-made.Very pleased with the kettle, it's neat, reliable, and practical, and the polished-chrome finish looks very nice.

... a Russel Hobbs knowing that is a a reliable good quality make
Bought as it was a Russel Hobbs knowing that is a a reliable good quality make. I found the price very reasonable. Does the trick warms the water up very well and quickly better than our previous kettle that wasn't tussle hobs and cost more money. however I have 2 issues with is product not on its skills of heating up water which is its main function. I feel that the lid is awkward as you have to pull it off and if you try to pull it off after its only just boiled and your poured the boiling water out into the tea cups already. which I do often as in our house hold you make teas and then everyone else asks as soon as yours has boiled it awkward! I tell you why the lid sticks and then you pull it off and its flicks hot water back up at you even though it no longer has the boiling water on it. but I can get past that. this factor can be resolved by just waiting a few minutes to let the kettle cool. the main problem is you can't see how much water you put in on the side theres no real guide so its hard to judge if you have the correct amount. I would recommend this as a item for a young couple as its cheap by still good quality and not too cheap. or even a treat for a uni student however this might be out of there price range.

A definite buy, whether on a budget or not
Don't be put off by the (relatively) low price. It looks fine in a classic chrome way. Important points:- 3kw hidden element - means it's a very fast boiler and the element won't get coated in limescale if you live in a hard water area. (Beware cheap kettles that have only a 2.2kW element)- 1.7 litre capacity - basically this is as big as you will get in a domestic electric kettle (some gas kettles claim 2.5 litres & up)- the base is neater than many I have owned, spare cable coils underneath- inside the kettle is a red plastic marker that clearly indicates levels for just 1,2 or 3 cups of water. Uses less electricity and so can boil a coffee mug of water in under 50 secondsThings you may miss:- No red light to show it is switched on - no effect on use for me though- no transparent strip on side to show water level - frankly I find these a waste of time as they are often affected by condensation and hard to read in normal lightNoisy - yes, fast boilers with hidden elements tend to be noiser. It is quieter the more you have filled it - logical really cos there is less space to act as an echo chamber for the noise.

Great kettle if you are wanting a kettle with no plastic inside to contact the boiling water
This is one of the few kettles that can have an almost entirely metal interior for boiling water. My main reason for choosing it.Just wanted to limit boiling water contact with plastic, which for me, discounted plastic kettles and metal kettles with plastic viewing of water level. This kettle, although it has plastic internal water min and max levels, the plastic bits can be 'unclipped' and taken off. Which is why I mentioned it can have an entirely metal interior for boiling water - if you leave the plastic parts in, it won't be.The kettle is a bit noisy as it is metal when boiling but obviously don't last too long anyway. This is our second purchase of this kettle for our daughter. This one is shiny mirror finish chrome, our one is brushed chrome. We have had our kettle for 3 or 4 years and no issues, and we purchased another smaller capacity one for our son that has no issues over 2+ years. So have absolute confidence this one will have no issues. No leaks, no overheating, no failure to work etc. It's one of the rare kettles that doesn't have a rubber seal on the bottom around the heating element. This is a great basic, dependable and sturdy kettle and I hope Russell Hobbs don't discontinue this model, it's a classic shape.
