American Gods: Season 1 [Blu-ray]

Fair warning for fans of the book, many liberties are taken with the source material for this adaptation for pacing purposes, BUT this was all done by the author himself, so it works out. I can't properly review this show without providing major spoilers, but suffice it to say, its a tale of a man caught up in a war of old gods vs new, and how his perception of the world comes crashing down and reshaped in the face of impossibility. Casting in this is hit and miss, but as a hardcore fan of the books, who I imagine playing the main characters is very specific and likely would never have happened (one character I can only envision seen being played by Scatman Crothers, RIP). Despite this, Showtime stepped up their A-game casting team, and though I may not agree with some choices, every actor is fantastic in their role and is captivating. Sadly this first season is short, and it ends at a rather strange point in the story, nowhere where I thought they would compared to the book, but since its been said they plan at least 2 more seasons that explores previously unpublished material by Neil Gaimen, its worth the wait I'm sure. All in all, check this out. Its a fantastic series based on a seminal work. Give it a watch.

I am a huge fan of Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal TV series and I am happy to see much of that talented creative team reunite to start an adaptation of the brilliant Neil Gaiman novel. I was not disappointed; this show is beautifully photographed, scored and acted and the story is both weird and wonderful. The Blu-ray itself is lovely and the extras are fantastic, although I do wish every episode had a commentary track. I am looking forward to season 2 of American Gods and, hopefully, season 4 of Hannibal!

Read the book by Mr. Gaiman three times. While the show doesn't follow the written word verbatim, it certainly features stand alone qualities of visual aid that I would recommend to any audience. Love the actors and actresses chosen to play the parts. The soundtrack and aesthetic effects are nothing short of a solid tale anyone with an interest in this sort of lore would find entertaining to the core. 5 stars to the writers and the producers.

The DVD could've had more extras but overall a good one to have in your collection. The stories expand Neil Gaiman's novel. Great acting in this, IMO.

I loved the book, and feel the series reflects the feel quite well. It does vary in some plot threads, but none that I have much of problem with. Aside from one exception, the casting is excellent. The exception is Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy - he's way too young and serious, especially considering Anansi Boys

I saw this on cable tv and I had to have it for my DVD collection. I've never seen anything like it. I've seen it several times. If you haven't seen it and can find it to stream, it's worth the watch in my opinion. Season 2??? Not so good.

Great first season for a very compelling and powerful show. Great characters, great writing, and wonderful visualization of very intense storylines. You just can't look away. Definitely Gaiman's work well translated onto the screen (but the series works even if you haven't read the source material). Can't wait to see what they do in season 2.

I loved this. Super plot and characters, thanks to Mr Gaiman. Dark to very dark atmosphere (which lifts in the last 2 episodes). The scene with Mrs Moon (DeadWife) and the lynch mob looked straight out of Sin City (which is a GOOD thing). Ian McShane great in his role - enigmatic and cranky, with a great presence. Excellent casting throughout. Gillian Anderson in her strangely under-publicised multiple role, I didn't even recognise her as Lucy and as Bowie (it's called Acting, darling), and as Marilyn, where her performance ticked boxes where I didn't even know I had boxes.. It's a long time since I read the book, so this has been a great watch for me, not comparing it with the book, and enjoying anew all the bits I'd forgotten about. Roll on season two - the book is ALL worth putting on screen, however many seasons that may run to, the more the merrier (merry in a dark, Gothic bloody kind of a sense).

This is indescribable beautifully shot. like looking out of a plastic screen with a touch of Tinted red very little I say. American Gods” is a bold look at reality if I’ve ever seen a show that can spell it out as this can. if this is going to be a series what can they do to stretch my imagination future than it already has after this one. Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney) wow now I know this guy can act his ass off..seen him in an episode of Law & Order S. V.U. when he was a very Bad dude and I hated him because he almost killed Benson. I know it’s a show but you get wrapped up in it. but this show really show his diversity in acting. then you have (Mr. Wednesday) Ian McShane goodness the man is good. an all the rest is just more juicy eye candy that played every part as good as the other.. this has resume play. love that. And if you put the subtitles on the first disc it continue to the next one neet. some of it is in 2.35:1 an 1.78:1 English 5.1 DTS-HD. Runtime 7 Hours 40 min. Love This Waiting For The Next Fix...

Muy buena Serie.

The American Gods Season 1 is probably better than anything I've seen in a long time. I am a big literature, TV and movie fan. I rate TAG S1 as high or higher than any season of Games of Thrones which I also love. Neil Gaiman is the executive director or something like that for the TV series. The show is not available on regular TV. Not surprising on account that it could easily offend the feelings of someone deeply religious or people who are more sensitive than your humble servant. Or should I say more sensible? Basically the plot revolves around the war between the old religious and mythological gods who immigrated to USA, and the new American ones having to do with media, power, money, technology and so on. It’s a mix of magnificent and disgusting, divine and profane, lofty and low, it's very exciting, violence abounds, sex is there including pretty explicit homosexual act etc. In fact the author, the producers, actors and perhaps viewers would have been jailed for it say 60 years ago.

Muy buena serie, pocos capitulos pero con muy buen contenido, entrega en tiempo y funciona todo correctamente. Recomendada a quienes les guste series dramaticas. Basada en el libro de Neil Gaiman
