    Nice fit and comfort.

I got these on Prime Days for a good deal and I'm happy with them. So far did two runs - 5 mile and 10 mile with no problems- I'll update the review if I have anything to add.I love the Altra fit with the wide toe box, and my heal locks in fine without needing to over-tighten the laces. I tend toward more minimalist shoes, and these Torins have more squishy cushion than I normally prefer, but they do feel neutral and comfortable under my feet, and the uppers are also very plush and comfortable. I was surprised that despite the higher stack height and soft cushioning, they allow for good ground feel on trails even if they mute the road a little more than necessary. The only thing I don't like is the tongue is thin and stiff and the top edge pokes right into my top-foot/lower-shin, so I need to be sure to wear socks tall enough to protect my skin in that area. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.Anyway, I think they're a good buy at the current clearance prices if you like low drop, wide-toe, medium cushion, plush-feeling shoes so long as you wear socks to keep that tongue from biting you. Maybe you could also cut that edge oof or somehow soften it or glue felt to it or something if you like very low socks or no socks.Oh yeah- I wear size 9 or 9.5 in most shoes and these I need the 9.5.Enjoy!

Like them, but not what Altra used to be.

*by M***Q on Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2023*

I’ve been wearing Altra shoes for at least 12 years if not more. Way back when you used to have to order from a catalog and then their website…. But now that Vanity Fair bought them out, they just don’t last as long as they used to. VF bought them out in 2018, they own Vans, North Face, Dickies, SmartWool, Wrangler, and several other shoe companies and other clothing companies. I have owned all the original Altra shoes although I wear a 10 and every other shoe Altras have always been a half size bigger so a 10 1/2 for me. No complaint there. My only complaint is that now the toebox is not as wide as they used to be and I personally think that is for aesthetic reasons. The materials used don’t seem to last long and hold up under trail running and hiking conditions as the older shoes used to. I have had at least 30 pair or more and the original lone Peak shoes would last quite some time. The new Altra shoes are now the same as Hoka One Ones, they just don’t hold up as well as they used to.What do I see that has changed? For starters the cushioning, it does not last as long as expected when paying $130 or more for a pair of running trail running and hiking shoes. The beloved toebox has gotten slightly narrower. The tread does not last as long, especially the more aggressive tread. the lugs tend to break off or just plain wear out. I still love Altras I will continue wearing them however, I wish the days are old, where construction and wearability were top notch! But that’s the price of progress specially, when I conglomerate like VF owns what used to be a cottage industry shoe.

Width is different from Olympus 4. Altra has made their shoes slimmer.

*by X***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2023*

- Refer to image, Olympus 4 is ~12cm in width & Torin 5 is ~10cm in width.- Both shoes are Mens US 9.- Length of both shoes are similar. My feet is 26.5cm for reference.- I have bunions and wear a big toe separator. Olympus 4 fits comfortably but Torin 5 is too narrow.- The sole of Olympus 4 is wider and my feet rest fully on the sole, whereas Torin 5 has a slimmer sole and my small toe is not resting on the sole. Also, my small toe is pressed against my 4th toe. So, toe spread is not as natural as Olympus 4.- Olympus 4 has more cushion than Torin 5.- Olympus 4 wider base makes it more stable in comparison to Torin 5.BUT with that said,- Do not purchase Olympus 4 if you're planning to wear it on tiles, city, road, drainage cover when the floor is wet or moist. I've nearly fallen a few times wearing the Olympus 4 while working in a clinic. The sole of the Olympus 4 is very slippery on wet tiles. Hence, I wanted to try out the Torin 5 that has a different sole.
