Q: Will this display both landscape and portrait format? (Our last one would not rotate photos)

Yes this does rotate the photos but occasionally it doesn't recognise the photo source in it which means I have to release and then reinsert the disk or usb which I find annoying at times.

Q: I have to reinsert the usb stick every time i power up.

Yes, if switched off for a period of time, reinserting the stick wakes up the digital frame. I find the remote control slow and tempramental.
