yes. look up Hardware Unboxed or maybe Linus Tech Tips for Photoshop benchmarks. you COULD get away with a 7700/7700X, but this is a better cost per core count as we speak on Prime Day

Suitable only for x670 series motherboards ?

Not sure why people insist on perpetuating the myth that there’s anything wrong with using this with B650 boards. I have this in a ROG Strix B650E-F and not only is running well, but it’s benchmarking well above average compared to others with the same CPU as are my other components. Read up on features to decide what board is best for you - don’t think you need the most expensive board just because a newer version exists. What you need is the board with the features you specifically want. Tbh, X670 would have been a waste of my money and I’m glad I went with the board I did

Can i use a noctua air cooler like the u12a or c14s? im concerned about the high tdp.

Yes! Although I only have a very light overclock with the NH-D15 as the cooler and a case with very good airflow. I am considering switching hardline water cooled, but most every application or game I've run, the cpu doesn't get past 80° C.

Does the motherboard for past generations of AMD fit this processor?

No, unfortunately not. Requires the x670 motherboards for now although some others are coming. Also, DDR5 ram required.
