Are they smooth on both sides( I don't like ones with textured or quilted sides) ?

Yes! Mine do not have a "seam". There is an open place where it is folded over but still smooth.

80 pads per box.... I love them & they are truly 'lint free'; we use them in doing Shellac Nail Polish, for our nails.... & don't want ANY little pieces of lint messing up the manicure.... I'm getting ready to re-order.

has anyone used the shu uemura pads for comparison?

I like these much better -- they are better made, higher quality, don't shed lint, and are more inexpensive. I used to be a diehard Shisheido and Shu Uemura cotton pad user, but I'm a convert now!
