Game changer-- must have
I don't write reviews for things I buy very often, but this little machine has changed my life so much that I have to. Whoever invented this should be nominated for the Nobel Prize. This thing is a miracle machine. My son is 20 months old and I can count the number of times that he slept through the night on one hand-- that is until about 3 weeks ago when we bought this machine. I saw the concept of an "ok to wake" alarm but was not sure if it would work for a kid as young as mine. Then I saw a review from a lady with an 18 month old who seemed to have a similar sleep pattern to my son. My son would wake up 3-4 times every night and need some degree of soothing to go back down. If he woke up after about 3-4 am (what we came to know as 'the witching hour'), there would be no hope of getting him to go deeply back to sleep and the best you could do was get him to lay down and nod off for 15 minute increments for as long as you could. That worked best with one of sleeping on the ground beside the crib. At some point, he would wake fully up, and at that point there would be no getting him back to sleep. You just had to wake up and start the day with him. We tried really hard to at least get him to 5 am, but it didn't always work. 5:30 was a stretch goal and 6 seemed like a near impossibility. Enter the hatch. I followed the procedure used by the lady whose review I read-- I set the alarm for 5:30 on the first night after having a talk with him before bed about how the red light meant it was time to sleep and green meant it was ok to wake up. When he woke up in the night, we told him over the baby monitor that the light was still red so he would need to lay down. To our surprise, he actually did after a few minutes. He whined a little bit but didn't start to cry like he normally would if we didn't go in the room. He woke up fully that morning before the light turned green and started crying out for us. Like the woman described, I reset the wake time for about 5 minutes out so he would not have to spend so long in distress. Then when the light turned green, I went in and made a big production of how the light was green so he could wake up. Each day I set the time a few minutes later until we finally got to where it is currently set-- 6:15. I'm not sure why, but he just gets it. It took a couple of weeks of him waking in the night and whining for us but going easily back to sleep when we tell him over the speaker that the red light means it's still night night time. After a few weeks of that he does it completely on his own. If he wakes up, he looks at the red light and just goes back to sleep. Most nights now he sleeps fully through the night and does not wake up until after 6. If he happens to wake up fully before it turns green, he lays down watching it until it turns green then pops up. He's sleeping so well that he's in a great mood when he wakes up. We are sleeping better than we have in a long time ourselves. The thing isn't perfect-- I find the app a little wonky thought it is reasonably easy to use. I think it's a bit difficult to change the routine or wake time while the current routine is running. When you try, it just turns the machine off. That's annoying if you are trying to make a change while he is sleeping. Some of the more advanced features like the stories and lullabies are a bit too complicated for our boy I think. We keep it simple with orange light and quiet music to wind down with books before bed, red light with the ocean sound effect for sleep (I recommend a pretty good volume) and green light to wake up (keeping the sound going so he won't be woken by the change in sound and will still sleep if his body wants to). If we start wanting to encourage him to wake up at a certain time I think I will have the sounds change to birds chirping. Long story short-- this thing changed our lives, and I just gifted one to a friend who is expecting a baby to give her the gift of sleep.

Our Baby’s Sleep Secret Weapon
We’ve been using the Hatch Rest since our baby was a newborn, and honestly, it’s become a non-negotiable part of our sleep routine. The brown noise is like magic - it helps drown out all the little household sounds and signals to our baby that it’s time to wind down. Now, when it’s on, she knows it’s bedtime. And honestly? It helps us sleep better too lol, but be careful in the very beginning with a new born - we slept TOOOO good due to lack of sleep and were lucky my mom was there to feed & change her because we were dead to the world. What we love: • The sounds are soothing - brown noise is our go-to, but there are lots of options if you want to switch things up. • App control is a lifesaver. I love the option of being able to adjust the volume, light, or turn it on/off from our phone means no tiptoeing into the nursery and being able todo it while rocking baby to sleep. Of course with conveniency there comes a price, which is a monthly subscription lol. • The brightness is adjustable which is good • It grows with your child. We haven’t used the OK-to-wake clock yet, but it’s nice to know it’ll still be useful once we’re out of the baby stage. • Reliable and easy to use. Once it’s set up, it’s very plug-and-play. We have a schedule set and rarely think about it - which is a huge win in the fog of early parenting. What could be better: • The app isn’t always perfect. Sometimes it’s slow to connect, or it randomly logs us out. When you’re holding a half-asleep baby and trying to turn down the volume quickly, this can be super annoying. • Sometimes when you go to touch it to turn it on or off it’s a little wonky, but for the most part it’s pretty spot on. • It’s pricey. If you’re on a budget, you can get a basic white noise machine for a lot less. But the Hatch’s features do add convenience. At the end of the day, this little machine is on every night (and every nap), and we truly rely on it. Yes, it has quirks, but the good far outweighs the bad. If you’re building a sleep routine, this can be a real game changer.

Buy it. The subscription too!
We’ve had one for about 3 years and we LOVED IT until it stopped working one night 😭 I did the trouble shooting to no avail and customer support asked if I wanted to see if I was eligible for a replacement. Obviously I said yes and it turned out that I wasn’t but they offered to send me a new one if I just signed up for the year subscription which is $50. So I did and had the replacement the next day. I then quickly realized how worth every penny the subscription is too!! THAT evening I got an email that they were worn and I was in fact eligible for a replacement and they had shipped a refurbished one which then arrived the next day. I left that one in the box and 2 months later we’ve now moved and my boys have their own rooms and own hatches! 10/10 I recommend not only this product, but this company. It’s perfect.

Most used and treasured baby item-but did bite the dust after year 2.
This was the best baby purchase we made BY far for our son who had horrific colic the first 4 months of his life. Many nights, it was the only thing that would. Sooth him. Paying for the membership is what really makes this purchase worth it. It comes with so many things to listen to and so many character stories. Our personal favorites have always been the violyn music, dreams capes, moon stories. I just with we got new content more often. Even so, there's hundreds of this to choose from to put your baby or toddler down including the brown noise (we opt for) and white noise. I'd give it six stars if I could. HOWEVER, after 2 years of owning it and using it every night, something went wrong and it's not usable anymore. It just shuts itself off repeatedly or randomely shuts off and then turns back on to a different noise at a different noise level. It's pretty much unusable and I am BIG sad about it. Even with this ending aside, I'd still recommend the purchase. The two years it did work paid for the product itself and I'd highly recommend one to anyone.

Must have- best baby product ever!
Second time buyer of the Hatch Baby Sound Machine. I knew when I found out I was pregnant again that this would be the first thing on the baby registry! We used this with our first and love that the battery lasts a while even when it’s unplugged. This came in handy when our electricity went out one night because of bad weather. We were still able to use the machine for sound and light! Now that we have our second kiddo, this product has never failed! The app is super easy to use and I never had any issues connecting it to the internet. The brightness and sound are easy to change in the app or on the machine itself. And it’s nice to be able to set custom sound/light settings. On my sons, I have it set to turn on/off at specific times each day. Favorite baby product ever!

An Essential Sleep Solution for Babies and Toddlers – The Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine
The Hatch Rest has a sleek, modern design that blends well with any nursery or toddler room. It features a simple, circular shape with a soft, matte finish, giving it a clean, minimalist look. The soft-touch buttons on the top are intuitive and responsive, and the display is just the right level of brightness – not too bright to disturb sleep, but just enough to see easily in the dark. The compact size is ideal for placing on a nightstand, dresser, or shelf, and it doesn’t take up too much space, which is important when you’re dealing with the many items needed in a nursery. It’s also very lightweight, so moving it around or taking it when traveling is no hassle at all. Features and Customization: The Hatch Rest 2nd Gen model offers a ton of useful features that make it stand out from other baby sound machines. One of the most convenient aspects is the Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows me to control everything directly from my smartphone through the Hatch Sleep App (available for both iOS and Android). You can customize the sound, light, and sleep schedule without even having to touch the device itself. Sound Options: The sound options are incredibly versatile. The white noise setting is a game-changer for helping our baby sleep through household sounds, and there are other soothing sound choices like rain, ocean waves, heartbeat sounds, and lullabies. The fact that you can adjust the volume for each sound, depending on your baby’s preferences, is fantastic. Some nights we need a bit of a louder sound to block out noise from outside or other rooms, and on quieter nights, we turn it down for a more peaceful ambiance. It’s perfect for both newborns and toddlers. Night Light: Another standout feature is the night light. It has a wide range of adjustable brightness, from a soft, calming glow for nighttime feedings or diaper changes, to a brighter light that can be used for reading stories or as a comforting light in the room. The color-changing light is a huge plus—it can be customized to a color that fits the mood or even used as a sleep training tool. We use a soothing blue or soft pink light at bedtime to signal to our child that it’s time to wind down. Time-to-Rise Alarm Clock: The Time-to-Rise feature is one of the most helpful additions, especially as our toddler grows. This allows me to set a specific time for the light to change color, indicating when it’s okay for them to wake up. It’s an excellent sleep training tool. We set it to change to a brighter color in the morning to help our child understand when it's time to get out of bed. This has helped us a lot with our toddler’s morning routine, as they now know when it’s time to stay in bed and when it’s time to start the day. Ease of Use: The Hatch Rest is incredibly easy to use. The initial setup is a breeze, and the app is user-friendly, allowing you to adjust settings quickly. The fact that you can save different profiles (for example, one for nap time and one for bedtime) is so convenient. It also remembers all your settings, so you don’t have to constantly readjust. The physical buttons on the device itself are great in case you don’t want to use the app. There are simple buttons for turning the light on or off, adjusting the volume, and changing the sound, making it super easy to use without needing to rely on your phone. The sleep timer function is also easy to set, so you can have the sound automatically turn off after a certain period. Battery Life: The battery life is great when we take it on the go. Whether we’re traveling or just moving it around the house, the Hatch Rest is powerful enough to last for several hours if needed, even though it’s typically plugged in. We’ve never had any issues with the battery running out during the night. Benefits for Sleep Training: As a sleep trainer, this machine is invaluable. The ability to control the sound and light remotely has allowed us to create a consistent bedtime routine that signals to our baby when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. The gradual light dimming option has been particularly helpful in establishing a nighttime routine that’s calming and predictable. The sound options have helped our baby sleep more soundly, and we’ve noticed fewer disruptions due to noise in the environment. Additionally, the customizable light settings have played a crucial role in helping our toddler grasp the concept of “wake-up time” and “sleep time,” making mornings easier for all of us. Final Thoughts: The Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine, Night Light | 2nd Gen is absolutely worth the investment. It’s incredibly versatile, easy to use, and packed with features that make it an essential tool for any parent. The Wi-Fi control, customizable light and sound settings, and sleep training capabilities are just a few of the reasons why I highly recommend it. It has become an indispensable part of our bedtime routine and has made a noticeable difference in the quality of sleep for both our baby and us. If you’re looking for a high-quality, reliable, and smart sleep solution for your baby, toddler, or child, the Hatch Rest is the way to go!

We love our Hatch!
This Hatch sound machine is a game changer! I love how you can customize the colors, brightness and sounds. It makes night feeds so much easier, and I love that I can easily reset it to be a sound machine when I’m done nursing. I recommend this product to any of my friends that are expecting or have little ones!

Issues to be aware of
The hatch is very popular and comes recommended by both influencer and regular people alike, and I definitely see the appeal. However, there are some major pitfalls that parents should be aware of before purchasing. I'll start with the pros: -the lighting and sound options it comes with are very customizable, such as volume, setting schedules, even adjusting the brightness of the clock display -being able to control it from my phone is nice for when I'm stuck under baby and need to make adjustments to it That's about it for pros. For cons: -the connectivity is atrocious. About 50% of the time when I open the app, it freezes, then says my phone isn't connected to the Internet (not true). It kicks me out and when I go in again it works. This has occured even through software updates the whole 9 months I've had it. It's extremely annoying when I'm quickly trying to make an adjustment on there -you actually only get a handful of sounds and light colors. For over $50 for this product, its frankly ridiculous. You have to pay a membership fee to access additional sounds and light combinations. This is my biggest gripe with it. Babes are already pretty pricey, and parents are forking over a good hunk of cash for this product, and then you're going to charge more for a premium access to more than three lullabies and a handful of nature sounds? If I realized this sooner, I would not have purchased to be honest. -as of a few days ago, the audio has been skipping as if it's a scratched record. It was so bad it was waking my baby up so I had to just turn it off. I went to their website for support and couldn't find anything. I couldn't find their email listed, so I'll be calling to figure out what's going on. Overall, this product gets the job done (when not malfunctioning), and I see the appeal for setting timers and such when the kids are older, but if I could go back in time I would go with a different comparable product on the market that wasn't as expensive. Connectivity and audio issues are not good for a sound machine, and limiting customer options through an additional paywall feels criminal lol. I typically only leave reviews when they're positive, but if you can't tell already this sleep deprived mom is over it haha EDIT: I bumped this up a star because their customer service reached out immediately seeing how they could help. Whoever I was talking to was really nice and understanding. They also made a ticket for me through their product support if I wanted. For some reason the skipping fixed itself, but I'll still likely reach out about the connection issue. If that gets fixed I'll update this review again.

We loved it so much we bought a second one
We have been using the Hatch Sound Machine for our toddler since the day he was born, and it has been such a staple in our home that we recently purchased a second one for our baby who is due soon. One of the biggest advantages is that everything is connected through Bluetooth and controlled through the app. The app is very user-friendly and intuitive, even if you’re not tech-savvy. There are many free sounds to choose from, and I love that you can save favourites with the exact volume and light colour you want. For sleep, we use white noise with a red light, and we have it scheduled so that at a certain time in the morning the light turns green and calm music plays. This has been amazing for helping our toddler understand when it’s time to sleep and when it’s okay to get up. It’s made mornings much smoother for everyone. Another feature we really appreciate is being able to control both sound machines through the same app. It’s so convenient to adjust volume, sounds, or lighting without needing to go into the room and risk waking a sleeping child — something you can’t easily do with many similar products. If you prefer not to use the app, the buttons on the back work perfectly fine as well. My toddler is even able to use it independently now that he’s out of the crib — tapping the top ring to turn it on and holding it to turn it off. Overall, this sound machine has been reliable, easy to use, and incredibly helpful for establishing sleep routines. We’ve had ours for years and it’s still working perfectly. Highly recommend, especially for families with young children.

Love it.
Always wanted to get one with my first baby. I got to get one with second and absolutely love it. Being able to see the clock is brilliant. Still figuring things out as it arrived today but so far so good. My newborn slept within seconds each nap. Also thanks for quick delivery 🙌🏼
