Brave New World

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest comeback albums of all time, although I see nothing wrong with the previous album (Virtual XI). It's a purchase that I will never regret, hopefully the same for you WHEN you buy it. So here is my Track by track explanation of the album.The Wicker Man; I still remember hearing this track for the first time on "From Fear To Eternity; The best-of..." and falling in love with it. It was love at first hear! Anyways, it's just a rocking track, from beginning to end, especially at the chorus when the rocking drummer Nicko bursts out with an almost impossible drum beat. No wonder it was the lead single from the album. It's just awesome! 10/10Ghost of the Navigator; Starts out a little mellow with no drums, kinda epic-ish, and then it bursts out into one of the best songs on the album, and of the year. Around the end of the bridge section, before the last chorus, it gets faster, heavier, and awesomer before the last chorus. Just a fantastic song. 10/10Brave New World; Starts out kinda like the previous track, and then bursts out into awesomeness. Never giving up, it's a great song. 10/10Blood Brothers; A nice track. Kinda mellow throughout. A really cool song. 9/10The Mercenary; Another rocking song, fast, heavy, just a fantastic song 10/10Dream of Mirrors; Clearly the epic on the album! The first couple minutes (The first two verses and the first chorus) start out mellow and then bursts out into full epicness. Around the 4-5 minute mark it bursts into an almost impossible drum beat at a kinda high speed and lasts for about 3 minutes before the last chorus appears. So alaround it;s just awesome and epic. 10/10The Fallen Angel; Kinda sounds like it could be a filler, but lets face it: There is no such thing as an Iron Maiden Filler Song! It has a rocking beat, heavy, and awesome! 9/10The Nomad; Another fantastic epic. That's it; Just epic! The end! Another one of my favorites. 10/10Out of the Silent Planet; A rocking, heavy track, another one of my favorites. This one was the second single from this album (released in a numbered Digipak!) 10/10The Thin Line Between Love and Hate; A great way to close an album. It's a cool track. 10/10So I think if you don't have it yet, well, buy it soon!

When I first started liking rock music, I only listened to Bon Jovi. This album changed how I think about and appreciate music. For me, it was a fantastic change. One of my favourites.

This 2000 release from Iron Maiden proves that classical metal is still alive and well. Back in the fray are Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals (where he should be) and Adrian Smith on guitars (ditto). A little more progressive than Maiden's earlier efforts, to me that merely signifies that they are keeping up with the times and evolving while not producing drivel merely to make money (unlike some band that has released crap ever since their black album. Oh and most of the bands on K-Rock too.). From the opening of "The Wicker Man" to Nicko's "Oh I f---in' missed it" at the end of "The Thin Line Between Love & Hate" there is no one song that you can say is really bad on this CD. "The Mercenary" and "The Fallen Angel" harken back to Powerslave and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son in songwriting, while "Dream of Mirrors", "Blood Brothers" and the title track show us a glimpse of the aforementioned new, progressive Maiden. The only complaint I have with the album is the guitars, or lack thereof. What ever happend to the crunching sound that they had on Piece of Mind and Powerslave? I defy anyone to tell me that the production on Brave New World is better than the job Martin Birch did on Powerslave. If what Janick said on the Maiden website is true, that they plug in with no effects and turn the amp up to 10, then someone please donate a distortion pedal to these guys. But, I guess after what we had to listen to during the Blaze era (which I personally think wasn't so bad, but it looks like I'm in the minority) to have Bruce and Adrian back in the band and churning out some quality music, I can live with that. Highly recommended, if only to wash away the aftertaste of X Factor and Virtual XI.

Saw on Amazon this sick vinyl from Iron Maiden as I was laying in bed, which of course I already knew all the songs prior to purchasing. No issues at all, delivered in less than 24 hours and no basic white covers. This set had printed covers (they care about their fans) and arrived brand new. Brave New World” is the 12th studio album by Iron Maiden is has very mixed styles, containing both melodic tracks, (Blood Brothers, The Thin Line Between Love and Hate) “Classic Maiden” sounding tracks, (The Fallen Angel, The Mercenary) and epic tracks (Brave New World, The Nomad).The production quality and mixing on this album is AMAZING everything sounds great and you can hear all the band members very clearlyThe drums are extremely well mixed too, finally we can hear the bass drums of Mr. Nicko McBrain, who seems to get better over the time, since his performance here is great, not overplaying anything yet delivering a relatively technical performance. His tone is great too, in my opinion.Brave New World sounds like what you would expect an Iron Maiden album to sound like.Great harmonies and melodic RIFFS can be found all over the album, as they always haveDickinson ditched his painfully bad raspy vocal style and returned to the OPERATIC vocal style found on earlier Maiden records

Oh jauchzet und frohlocket, denn die beste Band der Welt haben wieder ein weiteres Meisterwerk veröffentlicht. Wen hat damals 1993 die Mitteilung nicht wie ein Hammer getroffen, dass Bruce Dickinson IRON MAIDEN verlässt. Um so erfreulicher war natürlich die Nachricht, dass nicht nur der Sangesgott selbst, sondern auch Adrian Smith wieder zu den eisernen Jungfrauen zurückgekehrt sind. Deswegen war die Latte, die sich die Jungs selbst gesetzt haben, verdammt hoch und die Frage, ob das neue Album den Erwartungen der Fans gerecht werden würde, wurde öfter als nur einmal gestellt. Doch das Sextett würde nicht IRON MAIDEN heißen, wenn nicht auch dieses Problem zu lösen wäre. Das Ergebnis heißt "Brave New World" und zeigt allen Zweiflern, dass die Briten immer noch die Heavy Metal Band No.1 auf der gottverdammten weiten Welt sind! Doch obwohl die Scheibe in allen Magazinen abgefeiert wird, hat es auf mich den Anschein, das die meisten Autoren nicht kompetent genug waren, diese CD zu besprechen, da ihre Vergleiche ohne Ende hinkten. Doch will ich mein Maul nicht zu weit aufreisen und lieber selbst versuchen, es besser hinzukriegen. Here we go!Als Anheizer dient die allererste Single-Auskopplung "The Wickerman", dessen Charakter sich ungefähr mit "Be quick or be dead" oder auch "Aces High" vergleichen lässt. Eine typische Up-Tempo Nummer eben, welche gleich dem Hörer zeigen soll, dass IRON MAIDEN nicht an Biss und Aggression verloren haben. Das wunderbare an allem ist die Tatsache, dass die Jungs zum ersten Mal deutlich wahrnehmbar `Doublebass' einsetzen, was ich bei ihnen immer vermisst habe.Weiter geht es mit "Ghost of the Navigator", ein Stück, welches mich von der Stimmung her stark an die "Seventh Son..." Phase erinnert, wobei mir am spontansten "The Clairvoyant" einfällt. Sehr stark hervorheben möchte ich hierbei einen der genialsten Refrains, den ich je gehört habe, wobei die Gesangslinien einfach nur phänomenal sind und sich sofort als Ohrwurm in den Gehörgängen fest frisst!Das Titelstück "Brave New World" zeigt hingegen vermehrt Ähnlichkeiten zu "Fear of the Dark", da es ebenfalls mit sehr ruhigen Gitarren und den sanften Vocals von Bruce Dickinson beginnt, sich aber zunehmend steigert, untermalt von einer superben Gitarrenmelodielinie.Auch sehr ruhig fängt Song Nummero 4 "Blood Brothers" an, welcher von der Strophe her ein wenig an "Afraid to shoot Strangers" erinnert, aber deutlich einen eigenen Charakter vorweisen kann. Hier wird sehr deutlich, dass IRON MAIDEN wieder mehr Wert auf Atmosphäre und Emotionen legen, da der Song sehr stark unter die Haut geht. Für Konzerten besonders geeignet, denn bei diesem Song ist Gänsehaut garantiert!"The Mercenary" wäre meiner Meinung nach die nächste zweite Singleauskopplung (bei den Jungfrauen ja obligatorisch mit Ausnahme von "Fear of the Dark" wo es ja bekanntlich drei waren), da dafür eigentlich alle erwünschten Eigenschaften vorhanden sind: straighter und kompakter Aufbau, geniale Bridge, noch genialerer Refrain, griffige Soli, mehrstimmige Gitarrenmelodien, kurzum einfach alles was man haben will!Mit "Dream of Mirrors" wird wieder die gefühlvolle Seite von den eisernen Jungfrauen gezeigt, denn der knapp 9 minütige Song steigert sich bis kurz vor seinem Ende von sehr still bis aggressiv zu einem einmaligen musikalischen Höhepunkt (ich möchte nicht wissen, wie sich der als Orgasmus anfühlen würde!), bis dann quasi die komplette Energie freigelassen wurde und der Song dann schließlich ruhig endet. Als nächstes Stück folgt 'The fallen Angel', die wahrscheinlich nächste Singleauskopplung (ist ja nun "Out of the silent Planet" geworden), eine sehr griffige Nummer wobei hier wieder die alten Tage in den Vordergrund gerückt werden. In welche Schaffens-Ära ich diesen Song genau stecken soll, kann ich nicht wirklich sagen, da er wie eine Mischung aus den Phasen "Killers", "Piece of Mind", "Powerslave" und "Seventh Son..." klingt mit einem typischen "Somewhere in Time"-like Gitarrenlick, welches in den Refrain eingestreut wurde.Ein wenig aus dem Rahmen fällt das 9 minütige "The Nomad", da in diesem Song starke orientalische Einflüsse heraus zuhören sind, wobei dieses Stück - aus rein subjektiver Sicht - wie eine ruhigere Version von "Seventh Son of a seventh Son" (hiermit meine ich den Song und nicht das Album) klingt, mit einem starken, atmosphärischen Mittelteil.Zunächst ein wenig seltsam beginnt "Out of the silent Planet", dessen Struktur doch ein wenig komplex strukturiert wurde, bei näherem Hinhören aber seine wahre kraftvolle Pracht entfaltet, die energiegeladene Wucht, die in dem Song versteckt ist oder auch die Spielfreude, die scheinbar immer noch in Steve Harris und seinen Jungs zu stecken scheint.Dies wird im abschließenden "The thin Line between Love and Hate" auch beibehalten, den wie im Falle von z.B. "Infinite Dreams" oder "The Duellists" verbirgt sich hier in der zweiten Hälfte des Songs ein sehr geniales und atmosphärisches Instrumentalstück, vollgepackt mit den gewohnt-qualitativ hochwertigen Melodien.Hach, es ist echt eine Wonne, sich diese CD immer und immer wieder anzuhören, denn Abnutzungserscheinungen, außer an der CD selbst, gibt es hier keine. Klar, einige winzige Aspekte hätten auch hier verändert werden können, aber dann wäre der Reiz ja weg und "Brave New World" ist ohnehin abwechslungsreich genug, sonst wäre das wirklich zuviel des Guten. Deutliche Steigerung gibt es auch wieder in Punkto Produktion, wofür sich auf dieser Scheibe Kevin Shirley verantwortlich gezeigt hat und wirklich ausgezeichnete Arbeit geleistet hat, selbstverständlich mit einer kleinen Hilfe von Steve Harris. Den Sound kann man wirklich als klar und druckvoll bezeichnen, wobei kein einziges Instrument zu sehr in den Vordergrund gehoben wurde, kurzum einfach perfekt! Womit wir auch schon bei der Arbeit von Derek Riggs wären, der für "Brave New World" wieder seinem Zeichenstift ein weiteres geniales Eddie-Cover im gleichen anspruchsvollen Stil wie "Powerslave", "Somewhere in Time" und "Seventh Son of a seventh Son" entlockte. Allerdings hat er hier noch liebevollere Arbeit geleistet und ging noch mehr ins Detail. Sonst wäre es sich zumindest nicht die Mühe zu erklären, London in der Zukunft zu zeichnen, auf das Eddie, versteckt in den Wolken, herabblickt. IRON MAIDEN haben den Test in allen Belangen bestanden und kriegen von mir ein fettes Lob dafür, dass sie die Fahne des Metals weiterhin hochhalten. Ein rundherum perfektes Album, was man von den Jungs eigentlich nur zu ihren Glanzzeiten Mitte der 80er gewohnt war. Doch zeigen IRON MAIDEN mit "Brave New World", dass bei ihnen das Feuer bei ihnen noch lange nicht aus ist und ich hoffe, dass die Jungs das Eisen noch solange schmieden, wie es heiß ist!Da bleibt mir nur noch abschließend zu sagen: UP THE IRONS!!!
