Nikon Prostaff 3S 8X42 Binoculars

I have just received these and on first impressions they seem very good. They have a solid feel and are small enough to easily carry around in my back pack when hillwalking. I have only had cheap and low quality binoculars before these seem to be well worth the extra cost for my occasional use. The imaging is bright and clear. Though others have commented on a lack of separate carrying strap for the case I don't see this an issue. The case is designed so that the strap on the binoculars sits outside and so you can carry the binoculars around your neck either inside the case or without the case. There is also a feature to keep the eye piece covers attached to the strap and you can, if you wish, attach the objective lens to the cover too.

Sent for 4 pairs to compare.... All Nikon..Aculon 8x42, Aculon 8-18x42 zoom, Aculon 10-22x50 zoom & Prostaff 3S 8x42. I couldn't get on with the 2 zoom models as my right zoom eye has a slight cataract which influenced the vision and blurred the image. For the price £56 (damaged box but new) the A211 8x42 was excellent, a quality, solid bit of kit with superb light intake and very sharp image...much clearer than the zooms. The Prostaff had the edge with great image, very good light intake, easier to handle with good sensitive focus adjustment ,water & fog proof...so worth an extra £50. I'm not a bino expert but these are a great bargain compared with much dearer 8x 42 competition.

Purchased these to knock around along the Thames with-compared them to the budget Eyeskey (which I found excellent except for the fuzzy diameter edge-spherical aberration?) The Prostaff are light weight-excellent marriage with my spec’s and I can hold them with one hand and focus easily! Replaced the front caps with fixed ring ones(£5.99) Can’t see that the ED Nikons justify the extra money as when will I ever experience chromatic aberration?(maybe on safari)

Feel good when handled, bright and sharp image Diopter adjustment has a good range For anyone with differing image between each eye. Aesthetically pleasing when using these binoculars light and tactile feel. Only negative is the twist out eye cups can retract prematurely when against your eyes whilst in use. Other than that very nice binoculars

Amazing clarity, very sharp optics. Colours and light that they gather are excellent. Easy to hold steady, and light enough to hold up for long periods. Feel good to hold, feel quality. Nice grip. Excellent for the money.

These are great binoculars, very clear and easy to use. Haven't used them in the field yet but looking forward to that. My old binoculars are small and they can be a bit difficult to focus through. These are a nice size, I have very small hands but find these easy to handle. Love Nikon products and use their cameras and these don't disappoint. Update on review. Have now used these in the field and they are brilliant. They are very clear and make viewing so easy. Can't believe the difference from my old binocs. Would highly recommend

I bought these binoculars to look at the birds and animals whilst out walking. I had an old pair of binoculars which I was using before. These are so bright and a joy to use! I can see the beautiful birds and animals with clarity. The lens caps are a bit annoying at times (I have dropped them a few times!) but the picture is fantastic.

Picture Quality is very Sharp and Binocular is very light weight and compact, although Roof Prism Binoculars are bit expensive but quality comes with a price tag

Arrived early. Light, clear, easy to adjust and comfortable. Money well spent.

We wanted binoculars for a recent trip to Alaska and this unit was selected. We did some research which I recommend to anyone looking at getting binoculars as there are a lot of features that may better suit the need/situation. For us this was a great option for price, performance, convenience and our need. After purchasing and using the binoculars, we were very satisfied. They bring in a lot of light and the image was enlarged and clear for spectacular magnified views. This is a great unit and not very expensive. It will be interesting to see how these hold up over time.

Yes It's kind of expensive for compact binoculars. What you get is legendary Nikon ED glass just as the expensive camera lenses that Nikon makes. You get super compact binoculars that are very light and rugged at the same time. So in this case, expense is relative. Compared to similar binos from other top brands, they are competitively priced. Of course, image quality is great (clear and sharp) and they are easy to adjust with the diopter and main focusing ring. I initially got the Pro Staff 3S in 10 X 42 which are also great for the price but I wanted something smaller with ED glass that I could carry everywhere in their included belt pouch and that's why I got these. One con: I really don't like the rear eye piece plastic cover. It's very clumsy since it fits loosely and will fall if the binos are turned upside down. What was Nikon thinking ? The front covers are perfect as they fit in tightly and will never fall off since they hang permanently from the binos when taken off.
