Smart, convenient, and makes controlling lights effortless
I’ve tried several smart light switches over the years, and the Tapo S210 Smart Light Switch has quickly become my favourite. It’s easy to install, simple to control, and genuinely adds convenience to daily life without the usual complications. I first bought this switch to control a single light in a room where running a neutral wire wasn’t possible. Installation was straightforward, and the included battery made setup simple — no electrician required. Once paired with the Tapo Hub, it connected instantly to the app, and I could start controlling it remotely right away. The remote control and voice functionality are excellent. Using Alexa or Google Assistant, I can turn lights on or off without getting up, which is perfect for bedtime or when I’m carrying things around the house. The Away Mode is a particularly nice feature — it simulates someone being home, adding a layer of security when we’re out. The switch itself feels well-made and responsive. It works consistently, and I haven’t experienced any lag or connectivity issues. The design is clean and unobtrusive, fitting in perfectly with existing decor. Overall, the Tapo S210 Smart Light Switch is convenient, reliable, and easy to use. It adds a level of automation and control that really improves everyday life, whether at home or away. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, smart, and effective solution for controlling lights.

Tapo for the win
I recently installed the Tapo Smart Light Switch, and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. This smart switch has truly transformed my home lighting experience. First off, the setup was a breeze. The Tapo Smart Light Switch comes with clear instructions, and the entire installation process was straightforward. It connected to my Wi-Fi network effortlessly and synced with the Tapo app without any hiccups. The app itself is user-friendly, making it easy to control the switch remotely and set schedules. The value for money is outstanding. For a relatively affordable price, you get a smart switch that offers reliable performance and a range of features. The ability to control my lights from anywhere, schedule them, and even use voice commands with smart assistants makes this switch a fantastic addition to my home. One thing to note is that you’ll need a neutral wire for installation, which is common for smart switches. Also, depending on your setup, you may need a control module if you’re integrating it with existing systems. However, the benefits of having a smart, controllable light switch far outweigh these minor considerations. In summary, the Tapo Smart Light Switch is an excellent investment. It’s easy to set up, offers great value for money, and provides enhanced control over your home lighting. If you’re looking to upgrade to smart home technology, this switch is a fantastic choice. Plus, Amazon’s efficient service made the purchase process smooth and hassle-free.

Very good switch but could be better
I've installed 4 of these so far during our house renovation. I originally wanted to replace the dumb switch with something modern and came across these during Prime day. Packaging is excellent, so were the instructions. It came with a pair of batteries and fixings as well which was VERY handy. It does require a hub to work, unlike some other Tapo products that only rely on wifi. I already had a Tapo H100 hub so didn't need a new one. Quality is generally ok, albeit a bit platicky. One of the switches had a bit more travel than the other, I had to put some foam tape on the button to correct it. Installation is split into two parts: pairing and wiring. I'm a DIY enthusiast, not an electrician so before I got to wiring I did a lot of googling and most importanly, took a few pictures of wiring behing the existing switch. Pairing was a breeze, there is a latch under the switch, once moved to "open" position the front plate comes off revealing the battery slots and the "reset/pair" button. I put the batteries in, opened up the Tapo app, choose the switch I wanted to add and there on the app showed step by step guide to completion. It took no time to connect it to Tapo hub. The wiring part was also much easier than I thought. It doesn't require a neutral, which means it draws power from the included batteries instead. I made sure the main switch was off and used a mains tester to make sure it really was off! I then turned it back on to use the mains tester to confirm the live wire, turned electric back off to take wires out of the old switch and put the Live one in the LIN slot and the load one in the Lout1 slot. I did need go buy some spacers as the backbox turned out to be too shallow. You can see it in the picture. Once all that was done, I turned electric back on, pressed the switch and to my surprise it worked! Compared to other wifi smart devices, these switches seem to work much faster via the app. I suspect it's because the hub is making communication much easier and straight forward. Pressing the switch, the lights come on immediately without delay just like a normal switch. The switch makes an audible click/clunk noise when you turn it on, as if it's physically turning the switch on. Which is a good thing because one of my bug bears with smart bulbs is that they don't work when there's no internet. These switches however work fine without internet, as long as there are batteries, you can physically press the switch to turn lights on. Overall, very happy with the switches. I've mainly used them where there are multiple lights involved, dining lights kitchen lights etc. Much more practical and reliable then using loads of smart bulbs. There are some cons though. 1. No status light, I understand it's not drawing power from mains but in this day and age, they could have used a very faint led as a status light. Would have looked nice, would come in handy in the dark as well. 2. Altough the switch looks like you can click the entire face, only the bottom half is clickable. Very much like my old macbook! 3. There are no 2 way wiring option. For kitchen and dining it was ok but for the hallway 2 way switch was a must for me. The only way I could do it is by grouping two switches and automation in the Tapo app so that one switch turns the other on and vice versa. (see app screenshot and video. Excuse the mess). If you're a competent electric DIYer, I don't you don't need to wire in the second switch at all. Just connect the wires with some wago and the second switch should just work. Although it works, they drawback is that it takes a second for the lights to come on as one switch has to ask the other to turn on as well. Would I buy them again? Not at full price. I'd like a status light and the option to wire in Neutral and get rid of the batteries.

Excellent smart switch - well worth it
I'm extremely pleased with this smart switch! I bought it along with the H100 hub as a bit of an experiment to see how easy it would be to install, set up, and get running. Since the electrical boxes in my house lack depth, I 3D printed a spacer (see picture) rather than replacing the boxes entirely. I did need to buy longer screws (M3.5x40mm) to attach the plate to the spacer and socket, but beyond that, installation was a breeze. With the spacers in place, setup was straightforward. The key is to pair the hub with the Tapo app first, then add the light switch before physically installing it. I'm new to Home Assistant, but once I installed the switch and rebooted it, everything worked perfectly. I'm impressed with the automation features in the Tapo app, and the fact that it integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant is a huge plus. The only potential downside is that the switch is battery-operated. That said, many of my IoT devices use batteries, so as long as the batteries last for two years or more, I'm satisfied. Will I convert the rest of my house to this system? Absolutely—installing and setting it up was so easy. Next, I’ll experiment with using the switches in a two-way configuration.

At last a switch that doesnt require a 'neutral' ... I thought that that was marvellous.
Many years ago we had a extension put onto the side of the house. We had 2 external coach lights fitted that were manually operated through a bog standard single 1 gang on/off light switch. No problem there and it has lasted the test of time. Over the years however things have move on and I have tried to fix up a time switch so that my lights all come on/off auto. Always failed as the guy who initially wired the lights by-passed the the black or blue 'neutral wire within that switch. What we were left with is a straight 'live' wire in and then out. Well all that changed when I came across this Tapo S210 Smart Light Switch which operates WITHOUT any required 'neutral' wire. Wonderful. Unfortunately you have to also purchase an additional Tapo (in our instance) a H100 Hub for this light switch to work and pair up to so it makes it all a little bit expensive. Anyway for whatever reason the switch does not connect to an existing Homebase 2 unit, as an example. Shame that. You should also be aware that this unit will require two (2) AAA batteries in order to work correctly, together with a surface or back box with a minimum depth of 32mm or 1.1/4" in proper money. This could be a problem if the unit is to be installed flush. The plus side is that the Hub connects to your wi-fi and the light switch connects to the Hub. The hub will also accept additional stuff such as an Eufy door bell and things like that. All those things require a different Hub to that which the cameras require. Anyway a bonus, especially for me, is that the switch, just like the Tapo Smart Plugs, has a built in sunset/sunrise timer so once you set the thing up it adjusts itself to the said sunrise/ sunset times every day once you give it your location... (which can be switched off afterwards BTW.) Everything auto which is my type of switch. When fitted it can also be switched on/off manually as well as auto with the wi-fi. Finished result is a sort of flat tumble switch. Looks quite modern. Yes agreed its initially expensive yes but in truth has been working a dream for us with no faults at all from fitment of this smart light switch back in early Summer. All IMHO of course.

SIMPLE
TRUST ME if you really want to set up a smart light switch on an old switch with NO NEUTRAL then this is absolutely the way to go. YES you also need the tapo hub but its still not expensive and the hub can sit anywhere you like in the house it just needs plugging in. Then connect the live wire and the one to the lights and away you go. You can iuse it as as a manual switch or with alexa, If you need it as a security light to switch house lights on and off it can do that as well. Just buy it because its simple and it works!!!

works well
works well but was a bit of a pain to wire On to 1.5mm solid core definatly have to double over the cores or they will come back out needs a bit more surface area than a single strand

Not able to flush fit
This is not what i thought - it has a huge lump on the back so you need to put it in a wall box, you cant stick it on the wall for instance. Switches do what supposed to - just doesn't fit with my expectation. No mention of a huge chunk on the back on the blurb. Including a pic of this to help others.
