These magnetic reed switches work perfectly. One is mounted on the inside of our garage door and wired to a small LED light in the house. This helps remind us to not forget to close the garage door. The reed switches can be normally open or normally closed. Great value, and it is still working with no trouble after 7 years.

These weren't made for outside use but I tried anyway and it failed, that said it's not the parts fault. If I had fully sealed it that may have worked but I just tried some silicone and that apparently wasn't enough. If you do need an outside one search here for garage sensor, they are 3X cost (~$19) but made for outside.

The reed switcheabwoeked well. I needed a way to turn off power without opening water proof box. This provided a great solution. I just used the normally closed contact to power my project. Reseting power just required swipe of magnite.

I found that in my bedroom I often forgot to close the window, because I leave the curtains normally closed. Leaving the window open for an extended time, like overnight, is a good way to increase your electricity bill and decrease comfort. So I wanted a warning light that turns on when the window is open and is beside the curtain so that it can be seen. I found these NO and NC switches and also project boxes on amazon, and flashing LED's, battery holders, mini switches, etc, at a hobby place elsewhere online. My handyman put it all together, and put a second warning light on my kitchen window (which has blinds). The pics show the latter one. If the window is closed, the LED is off. If the window is open, even a little bit, the LED flashes, as you can see in the video. The flashing gets more attention and cuts down on battery use too. Apparently, I can leave the window open for a year before the two lithium AA batteries run out. So I do not really need the on/off mini switch. :) Note that when the window is closed, the switches are *offset*. If they were right next to each other, the LED would be on if you opened the window a tiny bit, go off again if you opened it a bit more, and then go on again if you opened it further.

I liked the idea of getting this device so I didn't have to worry about the opener in my car, which always seem to be too few. In general it works well to open the door, so if that's your only worry, it should be 3 stars. The open or not only shows one door. Other reviews have gone over that. It also doesn't fit a typical gang box so that's challenging. That's why I'd take off two starts. It goes to 1 when you look at the connectivity. In general I don't like the idea of having hundreds of online accounts always connected into my house monitoring their own device via their own cloud service and account. Think I'm wrong? Look for a sprinkler control that doesn't do it. Thermostats? And...Garage door openers. Actually I think they all do it. There are plenty of reasons that's a bad idea, but honestly I'm sure it's mostly around selling you and your data. There's really no reason for it. Keep in mind, most (this included) are not US based, so you'll have no recourse. I figured I could just block the IP, but have now figured out that's not possible. This "WiFi" device requires an Internet connection to work. Even in your own house, when you're in your LAN. If you want to open the door, it goes out to the cloud, and then back to you device, even if you're right under it. Dumb I know, but most folks are signing up for it so... If someone wants access to your house I suspect it would be difficult, but if the right people wanted access... Worse, it uses Mobile data and internet for all those extra things, but that means if you find the app open, you may or may not have opened your door accidentally. Remember the issue above, you will only know that for one door, there are three buttons. You can work around this by turning off mobile data and creative wiring, but if you're ever connected to a hotspot it's still possible. If you block internet access to the device (or your internet is down) it will not work at all even when your internal network is up and running. So, really you can't use this device unless you share your data with these folks and allow them to do whatever happens to be legal in their country. All I wanted was to use my phone via bluetooth or wifi to open or close my door. Nope, all these companies want your usage and personal data for that. Looks like I need to get another remote...

When I received these reed switches I immediately unboxed them and checked their operation one worked as designed the other one was dead on arrival. The one that was DOA I took the liberty of removing the bottom cover and much to my surprise I did not find a spring, a metal arm with contact points that I was expecting, instead I found a glass semiconductor grade reed switch. I soon discovered the problem a broken wire, after repairing the wire, operation was restored. Since I am using these read switches to position the mounting position of Hall effect sensors I’m not too concerned about how long the switches will last as long as they allow me too check the operation of the hand wound electromagnets and check the initial operation of my homemade brushless DC motor.

I would not recommend directly powering lights with this, contrary to what is shown on the product. I attempted a very low wattage led light direct power and it failed after only a few uses, like not even out of testing phase. I added in a relay and so far so good. I saw another reviewer mention the same issue, but I chose to ignore it to be lazy. I am using it to turn on a light in my cabinet and it is working well now with the relay. Only time will tell it’s longevity.

Bought the magnetic switch for an LED light project in a closet for my grandmother. She can't use a manual switch so I used it to turn on the lights when she opens the closet door. Has been working fine for month now.

Perfect what I need

Once my limited electrical knowledge figured out how they work, we were off to the races. At least that’s what I thought. When the cold of winter arrived, they stopped working. Now that summer is back, they are working again. I guess they are not meant to work in a cold (Canadian) garage.

I had an issue with a door jam that required a magnet switch that very sensitive and able to use this with no issues. Product is well built and gave me no false readings.

Put them in place and initially worked. Swapped out to the second set you get and worked a couple times then quit.
