Honest review after 2 years of usage
First let's get to the nitty gritty details. I purchased this product in NOV 2023 for $57 at that time. Boots were worn atleast 3x a week, each week primary for fishing on different types of terrains including gravel, sand, cement, dirt, and rock ledges. Primarily used to fish in salt water from shore. Boots were also worn during the winter as a winter boot. FIT: Ordered size was a 9.5 wide in Mens. Fit is true to size and is appropriately wide. Toebox is roomy. No pinching above toebox or where the toe creases/boot bends. Cushioning is comfortable, slightly firm but shock absorbing. FORM: Boot is well made and seams remained solid even after two years. No tears or rips in materials. Cushioning started to bottom out after 1.5 years. Original insoles were removable and were easily replaced with aftermarket insoles. Boot is LIGHTWEIGHT compared to similar size/style boots. The weight was a nice surprise. FUNCTION: Durable boots. Comfortable and dependable. Grip provided was very good. Traction was consistent regarding of terrain. Average to above average for wear resistance. Though considering the environment this boot was put through and for the price at the time it was purchased, it is excellent. Waterproofing was great as long as the top/tongue of the boots were not submerged. No leaks from the side nor from the seams. However, after 1.5 years, noticed that waterproofing did start to deteriorate and would find that inside the shoes would be slightly damp on raining days/water splashed. Boots run slightly warmer with fair breathability. FINDINGS: The boots were fantastic for the price at the time and really held up through the test of almost daily fishing for two years in the toughest terrains. Always felt comfortable and traction was solid. Even after the insoles started to bottom out, it was easily replaced. The only concern I had with these boots was that waterproofing started to fail after 1.5 years. As someone who fishes near or at the water, staying dry was crucial to having a comfortable day fishing. As a result, these shoes were retired at 2 years. FUTURE: I decided to give another boot a try, the Nortiv 8 Armadillo PRO in size 9.5. After initial try on - I noticed that the shoe was too narrow and had slight pinching on the top of the foot. The boots were heavier than the columbia. Overall build quality was roughly the same and materials felt quality. However, due to the weight and fit of those boots, they will be returned. Instead, I have placed a reorder of the columbia newton ridge boots, even at a more expensive price of 100$ as of 11/2025.

Perfect Fit With Great Durable Feel
These shoes feel fantastic! They are very true to size, and they fit me just perfectly. The craftsmanship and design look wonderful, and I haven't seen or experienced any issues with them so far. I ordered these as hiking boots, and possibly as winter boots, but they look so nice, I kind feel bad about possibly scuffing them up! The support around the ankle area seems adequate to me, but I immediately removed the insoles from these shoes. They're just thin pads, and although they were comfortable, they didn't provide the arch support I wanted. I had some high arch insoles that slid right in, and now I'm ready to go. I tend to overpronate, especially with my left foot, due to a prior injury, but with the insoles in these, and the added support around the ankle, these should be just great for me! Awesome quality, stylish appearance, and a great value, in my opinion!

Fits great, feels durable. *18 month update!*
These boots feel great. First pair of leather boots, so I didn't know what to expect. So far, they're water proof (except on the tongue). The rubber on the bottom of the boots feels softer, but it also feels like the rubber "teeth" sort of flex to fit rocks and stones better when I'm walking on uneven terrain. So far so good. *update* half a year in and still great. Im using these for hiking, airsoft, and work. Favorite boots by far and still very comfortable. *2nd update!* The second picture (on the carpet) is after 18 months of use. The tread is still great. I've been wearing these daily since my previous update - for an entire year now. I still love these boots. They're still very comfortable and my feet have remained dry this long. I'm truly impressed and recommend them any chance I get. I wear 12 wide and can't imagine buying a different boot when it's time to update. I should note that I used mink oil on the leather when I got these. A friend at work suggested leaving it on for 24 hours and gently wiping it off. I haven't treated the leather or taken care of these boots in any other way since that day. I know there are bad reviews out there, but if you're selling a ton of anything, there will be lemons. I abuse the crud out of these boots. I've been building a house, hauling gravel, cutting trees, working, and still doing trails and my other hobbies... these are worth every penny.

Dependable Waterproof Durability
These are my second pair of these boots so I'm really rating the pair I'm replacing. However, this new pair is identical to the pair I have so I'm expecting the same quality. That said, I can't say enough good things about these boots. They fit as expected and are comfortable right out of the box. No break in was necessary. They seem to be of high quality construction and materials. They have good, comfortably padded ankle support and an aggressive tread pattern that has performed great on all variety of terrain. They have proven to be completely waterproof without need of extra waterproofing products. Which is saying something considering they have served me well on many canoe camping trips in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. After 2 years of hard use (about 1,200 to 1,300 miles) they have proven to be the best hiking boots I have ever owned. (I'm 54 years old and have been an avid outdoor enthusiast my whole life so I've owned a whole lot of boots over the years.) The pair I'm replacing are still suitable for everyday use however the tread has finally worn down enough to warrant replacement. They are still waterproof and have no cracks or visible damage other than being well worn. These are great boots at a bargain price. Worth every penny at twice the price!

Best boot my well aged feet have ever had.
So have worn the Newton Ridge Plus for some 10 pair or so. If memory serves they were just Newton Ridge (non Plus) for the first few pair, but that was some time ago! I keep buying them as they do it all right. Waterproof, Support, Last a year of ~10K steps / day. My go to work, play and away boot. I actually got this pair for a workmate that had gotten boots from a local big box and the sole broke after 3 months, twice in a row. I could not take it anymore and had to get him a real pair of boots. He's doing fine in these. You probably would too. I don't have a break in period with these. They feel comfortable and work right and can be worn to work the day you take them out of the box.

Good looking boots. Solid construction at a decent price.
I write this after 10 days with the boots and about 100 miles walked. No blisters, no issues. I am satisfied. I was preparing for a trip to Glacier NP, and in looking at my current boots (Costco, $30) I could see they were about to fail. (Not complaining. A year and 1/2 is good for $30). I found these Columbias were my best choice from Amazon's offering. At $70, they appear that they will last significantly longer than the Costco's. I like the smooth toe, and they are good looking boots. Color is not not top spec, but I don't want any clown colors. They describe the color is as "Nori, Dark Banana???" To me they are khaki green with light brown details. I use the Sof Sole High Arch inserts in all my shoes. The sizing is accurate. If you have problems with your feet, you might want to double-check the size of your feet. If your smaller foot is not a little loose in the boot, your boots are too small. Seems to me that on any hiking trip with more than 3 people, one of those persons is going to be complaining about their boots all the time. Update: I bought these boots in July 2018. Currently they have been demoted to grass cutting and yard work. The soles are wearing out. The grass is 4.5 miles each week behind a self-propelled mower. Beyond those miles I walk about 20+ miles/week. These Columbia boots have out-lived two newer pairs of boots. One pair from Timberland (Amazon) and another pair by Eddie Bauer (SAMS). I was looking at my history in Amazon today trying to decide what the next boots should be. Looks like it wlll be another pair of these Columbias. They fit true to size. They are medium wide, not narrow, not too wide. They are comfortable for me. I still believe my original title is true.

Great boots
I have only used these boots outside once so far, but they seem to be working well. I wore them while I put up my tent yesterday. It was 26°F with 15 mph winds and a wind chill of 12°F and my feet were warm the entire time. Not even a hint of chill. I was wearing a regular pair of socks with a pair of wool socks over them, but even when I wear those socks with my regular work boots, the cold can set in fairly quickly. I ordered them a half size up from my regular shoe size based on another reviewer's suggestion. It was definitely a good call. With the wool socks on, the fit is snug to say the least. I have a somewhat wide foot so these boots seem a bit narrow, and I was disappointed that there wasn't a wide option for these. I would say that if you have had consistent issues in your life with finding shoes / boots wide enough for you, you may want to look for something else. And as others have mentioned, the toe box is indeed small. My toes aren't squished in or anything, but they certainly don't have much room in there. I will update my review after they get a bit more use. By then I should be able to comment on the waterproof aspect. UPDATE: I've broken the boots in a bit more and I'm very glad I purchased them. The grip is outstanding and the waterproof aspect seems to hold true. I wouldn't go using them the same way as knee-high rain boots, but I wouldn't worry on wet ground, light rain, or shallow creeks. I've done all of that with them. The big test came when I was on the West Coast. I was wearing them on the beach as the waves came in and a few of them were higher than expected. They went over my boots and wet my pant legs about a foot off the ground. Even though it was over the boot strings and the flap, only a tiny bit of water made it in and got the top of my socks wet. I was expecting fully soaked, but that wasn't the case. This happened about 3 times too. Give them a shot!
