The type of strap you tie down with and other factors. I have driven 70mph with my 12 foot kayak on it with no issues but I also use a 20' x 2" full wrap through the car safety strap for the just in case time. **Q: Will these fit a 2013 ford focus st hatchback?** A: I don't see how it would fit. It was too big for my mom's Honda CRV...too wide. There is nothing universal about it.
