Itโs 1984 and all Bud Fisher wants to do is find a place to live in Madison Louisiana. With his dog Badger, they come across a beautiful old mansion that's been converted into apartments. Something should have felt odd when he discovers nobody lives in any of the apartments. To make matters worse, the owner is reluctant to let him rent one. Eventually he negotiates an apartment in the historic old house, but soon finds heโs not quite as alone as he thought. What ghostly secret has the owner failed to share? Itโs up to Bud to unravel the mysteries of the upstairs apartments, but is he really ready to find out the truth? Review: Exciting Eerie Read - The author's vivid imagery and lively main character make this a hard book to put down once you start. You never know what you're in for when arriving in a strange town and in need of a place to stay. Bud Fisher and his faithful canine companion Badger find out quickly that it can be an eerie experience. The story moves along at a thrilling and suspenseful pace, leaving you to anticipate what will happen next. What is lurking in the shadows? Is it coming to get you? If you love an entertaining and scary ghost story The House On Cooper Lane does not disappoint. I look forward to reading more from Oliver Phipps creative mind. Review: It's no Stephen King... short, but okay... - This book could have used some better editing. I found some mistakes that were distracting at times. The story itself was interesting and kept me quite entertained, albeit could have been written with more suspense, in a crescendo type fashion. This was written very simplistically, as if the audience could be for very young adults. If that was the author's target audience, then this book delivered. If not, then the prose could use some fattening up... What is the backstory about Bud? One or two sentences here and there isn't really enough. Delving into his character could allow some foreshadowing and more complex writing techniques that would provide more to the reader. I did think that this was a fairly good attempt though and worth the read. It isn't long and it isn't a Stephen King, but it's okay.

Great suspense building!
I like books that arenโt gory or overly focused on the shock value associated with so many horror books and movies these days. The House on Cooper Lane builds suspense instead of throwing fear at you with every turn. I liked watching Bud as he attempted to figure out what was going on in the apartment complex. On the one hand, I was curious why he wasnโt suspicious of the vacant home, but on the other hand, he really didnโt have a choice. It was stay there or sleep in his car. If I had to state a con for this book, it would be that the dialogue was a little stiff. But keep in mind that itโs mostly a man talking to himself and his dog. And thatโs a difficult dialogue to tackle. My favorite part was the suspense building aspect. When you first start reading and notice the strange occurrences in the house, youโre able to shrug it off. But with each page turned, I found myself getting a little more anxious. And I love that this is based on a true story. That just adds to the suspense and the thrill of it. Very enjoyable read!

Practice before publishing!
As other reviews have stated, this was written by someone who seems to have not read many books. Many words were simply wrong or incorrectly used. The syntax was a distraction from the meaning. It was a simple story, and had a lot of distracting elements that had nothing to do with the story. Maybe the sleeping in the car on a dirt road gave a bit of atmosphere to the story. What was the purpose of mentioning that the dog left a turd in the overgrown yard? Many other item were simply left out. Many times the main character comes "home" and prepares food and washes himself, but give no details. The description of the "old" house is mostly in the form of adjectives meaning old-- almost no description. The sound of dragging up and down the stairs is never explained, nor is the "locked" double doors that have no locks. Many loose ends in both the story and the writing. Very much in need of both an editor and a proofreader. In the sample of the next book that was included with this tiny kindle file was a mention of someone wearing "course clothing." Not coarse! Course! If the book was intended to be either horror or mystery, it was a complete failure. The author may be commended for being able to but so many words together, but there is a serious lack of plot, character, depth, grammatical correctness, and quite frankly, interest. My advice is to do some reading before any more writing.

Disappointing Read
The concept of the main story, as well as the short also contained in the book, are good. Unfortunately, the main story was extremely anticlimactic and disappointing in the end. The short had potential, but was not well written. The editing needs work, with a number of errors, in both pieces. Both pieces are also far too โname heavyโ, continually using character names or the same descriptors over and over. The preview of another story in the end looks to be heading the same way. I feel the author has good ideas, and with better editing/Beta readers, could probably do good things with them.

If you like a book that gives you chillsโฆ
This book will have you looking over your shoulder and staring at moving shadows. What I really liked about this story is the detailed description of the location; it allows you to use all your senses as the paranormal experiences occur. โSomething for nothingโ - we all are looking for opportunities to get something for free and the main character found a inexpensive place to live. But, was it worth the price? As you will find out the main character gets more than he bargained for at this run down rental property. You are in for an adventure as you move in and explore what happens behind closed doors at โThe House on Cooper Laneโ. The visual imagery in this book will be with me for a while. I enjoyed this book but I think my teenage son will enjoy it too. This story will give you chills as you read it, as if it was happening to you.

A classic tale, well written and with a protagonist whoโs much braver than I am!
Good natured Bud and his trusty mutt establish their new lives in a new town and in a house with a grim and secretive past. Another great story for the commute. Iโve never really been in to reading spooky tales but this was a really enjoyable read. Like a previous reviewer mentioned - a classic tale and written in a way that builds suspense perfectly. I have to admit (much to my embarrassment) that I had to stop reading the story late at night and finish it in the morning. The author must be doing something right!

Entertaining
Oliver Phipps is an awesome writer and does a great job telling this unique story. Mr. Oliver Phipps is a fantastic storyteller that makes you feel real emotion and feeling. I loved this story. It had suspense and mystery, interesting characters, and an interesting setting Bud, with his dog Badger, looks for a momentary rent payment place to stay and comes across Cooper Lane Apartments. He rents the place, even when he knows it's out of control. Soon, there are enigmatic things fashionable around him. Ultimately, he decides to stay as his life is not yet exposed. But, he gets curious about it and wanders around to find the mystery behind the place. I look forward to reading more books from him. Highly recommended

Tiny stories.
Book was very short. Has a few short stories in it. Not as interesting as I thought it would be. Would not buy this author again. Donโt recommend it.
