Review: Awesome Antiseptic That Doesn't Irritate, But May Cause Cancer - A dermatologist sent me home with some of this to try as an effort to help a wicked psuedomonas-infected wound. It definitely seemed to help. I applied it daily. After cleaning the wound with wound wash or Hibiclens, I applied some of this directly to the open wound. I found the best way to use this product is to obtain a small glass or plastic jar that has a lid, and pour some of this item into that container, and use that container for daily use. To avoid pain and spills (I'll get to the staining part later), I would dip a fresh Q-tip directly into that jar of this solution, let it get saturated, then I'd roll the top of the Q-tip across the wound bed. This was a miraculous discovery as far as how to apply lol. Anything else (cotton balls, etc.) would either wind up too messy and being intertwined with my wound, or would hurt from the pressure. It is a great antiseptic product and *does not sting or burn.* Hallelujah. It definitely seemed to fight even this wicked strain of bacteria that eventually got me hospitalized. So it wasn't enough without IV antibiotics, but I could tell a huge improvement in the pain and hot-infrcted feeling on the days I applied this product as compared to the days I did not. As for the bright purple hue. It's real. It will at some point get on something it's not supposed to, but try not to panic. A nurse assistant gave me the brilliant secret to remove it from any surface, even fabrics! Rubbing alcohol. If spilled on a counter or anything, just use some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to remove it and it's like magic. It also got on my bedsheets and a fabric ivory-colored sofa, but by dousing those areas with with rubbing-alcohol-drenched washcloths and then dabbing with dry ones, it got *every bit* out. Hooray!! A potential downside, apparently this product contains some carcinogens, and has actually been banned in certain countries. It helped me in a battle against a terrible painful bacteria, so hopefully it wont have that effect on me. Also, if you are struggling to fight an as-seriously infected wound as I was, I wouldn't recommend relying on this product. I would go straight to the emergency room and hopefully get admitted to the hospital to treat the infection, as I wound up doing much later down the road. At the time I used this product, I didn't understand the seriousness of the actual bacteria that had been found as the culprit in my wound. If I'd been explained that, I'd have gone running to the hospital right off the bat. Also, this product if used for several days or weeks, will semi-permanently stain the skin. It stained my entire wound bed, including the layers of flesh underneath it, which made it difficult for my infectious disease specialist to see what was actually happening, because the dark purple hue colored out everything. Best of luck and health to you! A great product, but not without a few things to consider.
Review: Works great! - Works great but turns everything purple.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you use this on your tounge?**
A: I have suffered with thrush for the past 3 yrs resulting from from chemo treatments~ this is the only thing that has worked for me.... When I begin to notice thrush symptoms returning, I take a qtip dipped in the bottle and dab directly on my tongue~usually within 1-2 days it has cleared up and the sensitivity on my tongue has gone away! Be sure to let it dry as much as possible (I just stick out my tongue for a few seconds) as it will stain anything it touches, lips, gums etc., my tongue is usually only purple for a day or so , but it’s totally worth it for me!

**Q: When is the expiration date?**
A: It should be on the packaging

**Q: Is Genteal Violet good for fungus?**
A: Yes, Gentian violet is an antiseptic dye used to treat fungal infections of the skin (e.g., ringworm, athlete's foot). It also has weak antibacterial effects and may be used on minor cuts and scrapes to prevent infection. Careful though cause it stains big time. Even spilled some in the sink & it stained it, was difficult to get off. See WEB MD for more info on Gentian Violet, uses. Good Luck!

**Q: I bought a little bottle with red writing. It was empty. There was no leakage. What's goin on please ?**
A: Complain to the seller - they should replace without question or return. If the label hasn't been purpled, then there was nothing in the bottle to start with. If you're of a curious mind, pour a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol into the bottle, close it, shake it around, and see if the alcohol comes back out purple - if it does, there was once gentian violet solution in the bottle but it got removed very tidily. How? Can't imagine. Since it stains memorably, do your experiment outdoors on grass, or else over the plastic lining of a wastebasket - you do NOT want it on a countertop or within any bathroom fixtures! Put a bread bag over each hand before you begin so you don't risk purple hangnails.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great!

Works great but turns everything purple.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Miracle worker.

This stuff is the ONLY thing that has solved our yeast mastitis. After 4 rounds of Fluconazole for me and 3 rounds of Nystatin for baby, our lactation consultant recommended the GV along with probiotics and grapefruit seed extract, and I can finally breastfeed without searing pain. Yes, this stuff can be messy. I take several precautions using it to make sure my whole life doesn't turn purple: 1) strip. Both baby and mamma. 2) lay an old towel on the bed where you plan to apply and nurse. 3) rub olive oil or coconut oil in and around baby's mouth before applying to your nipples and feeding baby. It will help baby from being too purple. Rub more oil when you switch sides. 4) set everything up before you start, and make sure your area is clear of anything that might knock the bottle over (other items on the table, other kids, pets). I put a washcloth in a wide, shallow bowl so if the bottle does tip over, the liquid will be contained. I use a disposable nursing pad to put the top and my used q-tips inside the bowl to minimize the places liquid can travel. 5) wipe as you go. Keep a rag nearby so you can wipe baby's cheeks as he/she nurses. My baby likes to rub her face everywhere, so the GV tends to go places other than her mouth. If you wipe it off quickly (and use the oil as noted above), this minimizes the purple staining. 6) put the cap back on ASAP! 7) if you need to dress baby after, put him/her in something you don't care about (e.g. A white onesie that is a dime a dozen). Baby will surely put his/her fingers in mouth after, or drool, and the GV will get on clothing. Alternatively, do it right before bed and swaddle to keep hands away. I haven't had a spill yet, and anything I've stained, it's been totally worth it, because this stuff has kept me breastfeeding. Edit: It’s worth noting that we used this WITH the advice of our LC along with systemic treatments for myself (including diet changes). We didn’t make the decision lightly. According to a leading Canadian lactation specialist, most breastfeeding pain comes from poor latch. My second baby latched poorly and it felt EXACTLY like my first baby’s thrush. Breastfeeding pain can be WILD especially in the first several months. Before trying this, I suggest going to a certified lactation consultant who can spend lots of time with you to figure out what’s causing pain. Keep going mamma… You can do it!!!
