The kids absolutely love these purple lights. They put off what you would consider a black light. Very soft and easy to use as a night light.

Overall these are good, with a couple points to note: The overall heat output is pretty low. I let one of these run all night in a small lamp, and the top of the bulb stays pretty cool but the base (the area from the black section to the bottom metal part) gets fairly warm to the touch, but not excessively so. These will make some neon items glow (depends on the color, and how close the bulb is to the items) if the bulb is pointing straight up in a typical lamp. Unless you are aiming the top of the bulb directly at the neon items, you won't see the full effect. If you are looking for a "true" UV Black Light that only lights the neon items and not the rest of the room, get something else. However, if you want a really bright BLUE ambient light, these are the definitely ones to get. One bulb can easily light up an averaged sized room fairly well, especially if placed in a room corner with bare walls. In these cases, you might want to put it in a lamp with a dark shade. If used outside, the effect might not be as dramatic, but I don't have the means to try it. Regardless, for my purposes I am using these indoors only and I've taken off one star because of the excessive brightness.

Not super bright, so has to be fairly close to illuminate with UV. Quality is not great with one out of eight having a tilted LED platform. The clear shell is thin and flexible, not a hard plastic.

Durable and does not generate heat like the old filament black lights.
