I used one on a DIY motorized camera slider/dolly to get the slider moving at the exact right speed and another on a turntable - both worked great. If you want a small 12v motor with speed control then this takes care of the speed control part. The motors I used with it are both the "HOSSEN® 30RPM Mini Gear Box Electric Motor 12V DC 37MM High Torque", and the "RioRand® DC 12V 0.07A 3.5RPM High Torque Gear Box Electric Motor 37mm". Both of these motors are on desertcart as well, so for the price I think its a good deal to get something motorized. They both ship from the USA and arrived fast, so just watch out for the ones that ship from "overseas" that take weeks to arrive - if you are concerned about getting it soon. There's no instructions with it, but there are 4 screw terminals to attach the wires - 2 for the power supply and 2 go to the motor, and once you connect them you have speed control of the motor. One thing worth noting - the screw terminals are not clearly marked when you are looking at it from the angle shown in the image above, but if you see where the screw terminals are and then turn the board upside down you will see it is written on the reverse side under each terminal. If you are going to screw it down before you attach wires its worth writing down which wire goes where as you won't be able to see it once the board is screwed down! This devise uses Pulse Width Modulation. If you are not familiar with this function, it basically chops the voltage in order to regulate the current output. You will be able to control the fan speed, without loosing current through a resistor in a rheostat and wasting your battery. I use it to control 12 and 24 volt wiper motors for animatronic devices. I use power supplies instead of batteries and have digital meters for output voltage, current, and motor rpm feedback by attaching a 10 tooth sprocket to the motor shaft and sensing by means of PNP proximity sensor. All of this gives me the ability to monitor and control functions of the motor quite precisely. You can also purchase versions of this controller that allow PWM control of the speed instead of the potentiometer which will then allow programmed speed patterns with a micro controller such as Arduino. This will be my next project. **Q: Are there ports to screw the wires in or do they need to be soldered on?** A: There are four screw ports on the side opposite the controller knob. A pair for +/- power and another for motor. They are clearly marked on the under side of the board. **Q: How can I connect this to an Arduino to control a 12V motor?** A: I did it the brute-force way. I drilled a hole in the knob and inserted the shaft of a servo. I then controlled the servo via the Arduino. Throughout the rotation of the pot, motor stalls and jumps in speed. Apparently the potentiometer is dirty and needs cleaning. After the pot is cleaned and the device was tested with numerous motors both brushed and brushless.
