Maybe I got a different light than some of you...
Timer doesn't work? PAR not enough? Simply not true unless you got a faulty unit. The timer can be tricky, but you must READ the instructions! You can easily set your timer by the middle button. Simple as that. Many complaining that they cant set the time the light comes on or the light shuts off after you set it. When you plug in the light, the timer starts. If you want it to start at 9am, plug it in at 9am. If you want it to start at 10am, plug it in at 10am. It is literally that simple. The light goes on while you set it so you can view your settings. It auto shuts off after a minute or two if it is not within your timer settings. If it is, it will stay on. The PAR isn't enough? I'd check you PAR meter. I have this light over a small SPS tank and everything is doing great. Actually started bleaching things when I had it turned up all the way. I am getting the following numbers 6" under the water. I didn't test a few combos (B5:W3 or B5:W4), but you get the idea: B1 = 62 B2 = 109 B3 = 156 B4 = 202 B5 = 237 W1= 50 W2 = 91 W3 = 124 W4 = 156 W5 = 195 B1:W1 = 120 B2:W1 = 170 B3:W1 = 215 B4:W1 = 264 B5:W1 = 307 B5:W2 = 344 B5:W5 = 422 Overall, this light has great color and is more than enough light. I wish there was more blue (maybe swap a white or two for a few more blue), but for the price, you cant go wrong. If you want a great budget light with good control, active cooling, and great output, then this one is it. I will be picking up a few more for my other tanks. UPDATE: A036 Model Picked up the A036 to try out - all I can say is...WOW! Here is my take on this model... DESIGN/MOUNTING BRACKET: The design upgrade is very good - feels less cheap without changing the shell material. LOVE how you can now adjust the ligh outwards and upwards with the new bracket - so much better! COLOR PROFILE: SO MUCH BETTER! Minimizing the white LED quantity and going 14k instead of 6500k makes the color science render a much better profile for this light, even if all white LEDs are used. LIGHT SPREAD: The A036's light spread at a height of 6 inches and even 12 inches is very impressive. If someone wanted to use a single light for a longer 24-30 inch standard aquarium, they could by adjusting the light height to 12 inches. Otherwise, divide you aquarium length by two to get recomended light height. Examples: 12 inch aquarium = 6 inch light height 18 inch aquarium = 9 inch light height 24 inch aquarium = 12 inch light height PAR TESTING: Here are the Quantum meter results for the A036. Two scenerios were tested: 6 inches from the water's surface and 12 inches from the water's surface. To read the chart, take your intensity for the blue channel and the intensity for the white channel, and then add them together. For example, using the 24 inch chart, if your setting is 5 (50%) blue and 1 (10%) white, the blue energy is 49umols and the white energy is 4umols. Add them together and that means the PAR at the bottom of the aquarium is approximately 53umols. A036 LED PAR NUMBERS AT 24" Meter: Apogee MQ-510 Light mount height: 12 inches Senser height: 12 inches underwater Total light to sensor height: 24 inches * values are from the bottom of the aquarium with flow off Intensity Channels/umol (1) 10% B12 | W4 (2) 20% B22 | W7 (3) 30% B31 | W11 (4) 40% B40 | W14 (5) 50% B49 | W18 (6) 60% B57 | W22 (7) 70% B65 | W26 (8) 80% B73 | W29 (9) 90% B80 | W32 (LF) 100% B87 | W36 A036 LED PAR NUMBERS AT 18" Meter: Apogee MQ-510 Light mount height: 6 inches Senser height: 12 inches underwater Total light to sensor height: 18 inches * values are from the bottom of the aquarium with flow off Intensity Channels/umol (1) 10% B24 | W8 (2) 20% B42 | W14 (3) 30% B59 | W20 (4) 40% B74 | W27 (5) 50% B89 | W34 (6) 60% B104 | W40 (7) 70% B117 | W46 (8) 80% B132 | W52 (9) 90% B144 | W58 (LF) 100% B157 | W63 The reviews complaining about the light shutting off - READ THE DIRECTIONS! I see so many people complaining that the light shuts off or goes dim after they set it...its supposed to do that! There is an auto ramp up/ramp down time of 30 min each. This is why the lights go dim after a few seconds. If you didn't set your timer up the lights will shut off completely. To set the light: 1). Plug it in 2). Set your timer (how long lights stay on) 3). Set your desired White level 4). Set your desired Blue level 5). Now to start the timer, disconect/reconnect the barrell plug at the corresponding time. For example, if you want your lights to start at 10am, disconect/reconnect at 10am. If you want them to start at noon, disconnect/reconnect at noon. The timer will start from whenever you do this. After you do that, you leave it alone. No need to do it again unless you want to change your start time to something different. Overall, you can't beat these lights at this price point! I understand that some people may want more bells and whistles, and that is fine. But if you are looking for a light with standard features, a lot of power, and at an incredible price point...give this light a try. You wont be sorry.

[4 MONTH UPDATE] Great little light: Proven Winner for shallow live reefs (pico, nano, frag...)
Great little light. Have it over a frag tank that's 12 in high x 24 in wide x 18 in deep and it lights up most of it. Coral seem happier since installation. Time will tell if it grows corals well. May purchase another if this proves to be under powered for the frag system. Update (4 months since installation): Proven Winner; albeit, this is over a 12 in high x 24 in wide x 18 in deep frag system plumbed into a 150 gal multi-tank system running full power on an analog timer. We grow soft corals and keep a number of LPS species healthy with a low tech setup using a macroalgae refugium, an aging & under-spec protein skimmer, and a massive amount of live rock/water flow with minimal dosing. This little light has some decent PAR values at shallow depths (may be good for low-light corals at ~18 in depth, no promises). Growth of coralline algae spiked and maintained strong growth rates since early February 2018, without other changes to the system. The most drastic change was to our coral frags, anemones, coral rescue cases, and coral mother colonies. We've never used an AquaIllumination, EcoTechMarine or other high-end LED light on our personal systems but we are definitely impressed by the quick healing, rapid growth and reproduction rate exhibited by the corals in our frag system with this light. For example, we purchased 10 small rainbow rose bubble anemones around the same time and now have 23. Our 2-head green duncan coral that was dying from a flameback pygmy angel attack has between 10 and 15 heads. The correct wavelengths of light are present in sufficient quantity to do what it says it will do, grow corals (given it's applied to a tank that's within its capabilities). Please note that the anodizing on the aluminum will rapidly disintegrate (~2 weeks) when continuously exposed to salt water. This is generally expected with hard anoziding v. salt water (possibly slightly electrified), did not exceed the water line, had no negative impact on our system, and quickly grew over with coralline algae. The support is strong and stable if properly secured with some common sense. The photographs attached were taken today, after ~4 months of use. Perfect for a nano, pico, or frag system. I recommend buying this one if it's on your short list; it's worth the extra over comparable budget led fixtures. Dollar for dollar, it's hard to beat this little giant. Just wish it was made in the USA.

Good Beginner Reef Light!
Ran for 5 years before breaking. Can grow beginner coral pretty well. Wish it had more settings like light options but it’s a good light for what you pay for. Prefect light for budget beginner reef keepers.

La lámpara funciona perfectamente, un poco fuerte la luz para mi gusto. Pero el único defecto que encuentro es el soporte. Tuve que adaptarlo porqué no funciona ese soporte.

Very good light to have for a fish tank the problems i faced are: 1) it is very annoying to adjust the timer. you have to unplug and plug it to start the sequence. for example, if you want to start the light at 6 am, you have to unplug and plug at 6 am. imagine if you change your mind and you wanted at 5 am (wait for the next day) 2) it is either white, blue or combination of both. you can't have the timer white in the morning and blue in the evening.
