Just set the knife in the sharpener slot and slid it back and forth the full length of the knife, making sure you get the tip as you're doing this.

I got those as anniversary present from my family. I love these. They are super sharp and have a nice weight. I have not washed them in the dishwasher. I wipe them with soap and water. The wooden block is very nice. Excellent value for the money.

I love them , the style is great the block is solid and pretty. They were VERY sharp and still are months later. The ONLY downside is that the handles are heavy which throws off the balance. It took a minute to get used to it but once I did it's been fine
