Is it possible to charge 1 cell (at a time) with this charger?** A: I have owned this. The universal charger WILL charge batteries individually. There are 4 charging 'points' and you can choose to put one small battery (AA or AAA) in one point. Of course, you can also put two small batteries in each point to get the full 8-at-a-time figure. This also only applies to the small batteries. Cs and Ds are charged individually in each point, so their max is only 4 at a time total. **Q: So: how many batteries would this charge (in total) at one-time~~?!?!?!?** A: The OLDER CHFC2 model could charge up to 8 AAs, 8 AAAs, and 4 Cs or Ds. You could also charge variations, say 4 AAs in two slots, and 4 AAAs in the remaining too. I am on my second of the CHFC2 model, and the spring loaded mechanisms degrade over time so that I can only charge 1 AA or AAA in some of the slots. :( It looks like the CHFC2 is no longer sold. >:( NO MORE. It only charges 4 AA or 4 AAA at a shot. It appears from the pics and description that appears that the current model has done away with the old fallible mechanism that allowed up to 8 smaller batteries to charge at once. That's too bad, as I need such when I'm charging AAA batteries for a pair under-cabinet light pucks (3 ea) that I use in my kitchen and in a bathroom cabinet. **Q: does this charger have individual circuits for each battery, or must they be charged in pairs?** A: They do not have to be charged in pairs. You can charge individual AA or AAA batteries by placing in the center slot. If you want to charge more than 4 or you are charging larger batteries at the same time, you can put them in pairs on either side of the center slot. **Q: Will it charge AA NiMH?** A: Thank you for the question. I owned it so I know. The Tenergy charger started breaking almost immediately but never stopped working.Almost all of the same complaints I see about this Energizer charger is very similiar to every problem I had with the Tenergy smart charger. The Tenergy smart charger is $10 more however. Also, though it hardly matters, the Tenergy charger doesn't look as nice as this one and the LCD screen on the lid is too easily broken on the Tenergy. The Tenergy charger was a bit noisy though I didn't mind that too much.The $15 dollar Tenergy isn't even worth mentioning. It's very heavy and takes MUCH longer to charge batteries than this one. It is also not a smart charger so it's on a timer which is most likely too little for your battery.Finally, I've only owned the Energizer charger for a day so I'll have to update later on its longevity. The charger came in 22 hours though my shipping was two day. Also, the charger's power adapter fits inside the charger when you're not using it, which helps with storage. It's light also which I like.Basically, all the larger chargers for D batteries are not very good, but at $20 a piece, this charger looks, feels, and does the job just a bit better than the rest and is cheaper also.
