Does this Stand/Cradle set come with the charging chord that plugs into the WiiU? Or are you expected to have one already?

This is an old question and the other answers are old too but I had a different experience so I want to update this. I got this in January of 2018 and it came with the grey charging cord and the charging cradle and a stand all in one box.

What is the point of the stand? I get the cradle charger which is very useful, but who uses the stand? Why not just use solely the cradle?

The main purpose for having the stand is because in Wii mode you can use just the Gamepad and a Wiimote, freeing up the TV for someone else (and a separate non-charging stand just allows this to be more easily portable than, say, unplugging the charge cradle and setting it on the coffee table.The more obscure stand is the little hinged one used to keep the gamepad flat/level on the floor - I've only seen one or two minigames that require that, though, and it doesn't look like that one comes with this set.The other reason for this set to be sold separately was that the original non-Deluxe (white) Wii U's did not come with these items - you just plugged the charger cord directly into the gamepad to charge it.

Is the connection is compatible with American Wii U ?

its just the stand for the game pad yes it fit the american wii u

Will this still work if I have a protective cover on my game pad?

it should but I don't know for a positive fact. can't imagine they would make a cradle that didn't take the protective cover on it. hope that helps. thanks
