As a uni student who uses their iPad and Apple Pencil a lot, I noticed the normal pencil would start to hurt my fingers and hand over time so I opted to purchase some grips to help with this. These grips have not only entirely resolved the pain I was feeling, but also make writing feel nicer similar to regular grip pencils. It does still stick to the side of my iPad which is great but not as good as it normally does which is not too much of an issue. If you find a problem with that you can simply remove the grip for charging the pencil then put it back on when writing.
