Spring hinge door closer
Works well on our house to garage door. Have to add a washer to the door pin.

Just what I wanted...keep the door mostly closed
I have a home office and my cats are jerks. I don't need the door closed, but I need it to be almost closed but not latched because of noise from the rest of the house. If I close the door, the cats will complain. If I leave it cracked open, they push their chonky butts through and the door would swing open. I needed a middle ground. One of these on the pin of one of the hinges (it's weird...the pin has to hang out the top of the hinge area) and I get just want I needed. Humans can open the door the whole way. The cats can push through the door without it hurting their tails. The door stays mostly closed, but not latched...which is what I wanted. If you want the door to CLOSE and latch, I'm not sure this will do it. It might if the door is light enough, and you let it swing freely from all the way open so that it sorta slams shut. I don't want that, and this doesn't do it. Maybe if my door latch were lighter weight, it might do it...but as strong as this spring is, I don't think it has enough juice for that. In fact, I'm not sure if you'd want that, considering how much pressure this puts on the frame and the door. If I put two of these on the door, it might close and latch. I bought a 4 pack, but one was just the right amount of resistance. If this is for child safety and you want a guaranteed close and latch of your door, this is not the product. It doesn't have enough force if it's not swinging closed with velocity and the door wouldn't latch for you. That being said, for keeping doors MOSTLY closed, this is perfect, and even normal cats can easily push through with minimal resistance, while returning the door to the mostly closed position.

Use protection
Like me, if you don’t want to drill holes and install a typical door closer than this might work for you. I plan on removing it some time down the road. My kids can’t seem to close the porch door so this is a quick fix. One spring does the trick. Any more and it would slam too hard. This is a spring so there is no dampening control. This WILL leave marks and damage the door. It’s not too hard though to find some kind of flat material to put behind the contact points if you think about it a minute. I used the catch part of a cabinet child proof latch. It works perfectly. Not the most attractive thing but does the trick.

Works well. Super easy to install.
These little guys are a great deal. In the interest of saving money and natural resources, I only heat/cool 2 rooms in my house. So it's super important that those rooms remain as tightly sealed as reasonably possible. One of my doors does a poor job of closing all the way when you give it a shove but it doesn't start to open again for a few seconds so you don't know it didn't close until you're halfway across the room. Or you don't notice at all and sits there, open, venting all you're warm/cool air out into the hot/cold house. Very annoying. So I looked up self-closers. I thought I'd be stuck with big, expensive, commercial device that would be massive overkill for my little hollow-core door. But I found a closer by Astra called the Gibcloser. And that works great and I'm happy with it. But I've also heard they can wear out kind of quickly, depending on how tightly you've got the spring wound. So I sanded down every place the door or striker plate rubbed and oiled the hinges and the opener mechanism. Still, it wouldn't close the door all the way without cranking up the tension in the closer way up and then it closed the door and also slammed it. Well, when I was checking out from the closer purchase, I looked over the 'What people who bought this also bought that...', section and I saw these. They looked too simple. A device like this would be too easy. There's gotta be a catch. But, no, they work exactly as advertised. So I picked them up as a sort of 'Plan B' and for use in other parts of the house. Right now, it's working in concert with the Astra unit but I'm going to try it out alone. If it can't quite close the door alone, I'll add a second spring on another hinge and that should be more than enough torque to close my door. If I had seen these first I would have just tried them and saved a few bucks. But, I also like the setup I have now. The two work well together. I'm sure I'll be purchasing more of there in the future.

Quick fix, but not a long term solution
I bought these to hopefully keep from telling the kids 100 times a day to close the exterior doors to the house. I installed three. This was in May 2023. The rubber on all of them failed within the first few months. All began scratching the paint off the doors. Today, February 2024, one of the springs failed, broke, and shot a piece of itself across the garage. That was dangerous and could have caused injury. Luckily, no one was hurt. I’m am going to try the spring hinges now and replace the two remaining springs. These were easy to install and did the trick, but only lasting 9-10 months, it’s not what I was hoping for. They did close the doors and saved me the increased AC/heating bill costs.

It actually works!
I honestly can’t believe these things actually work, but they do. I just installed them on 4 interior doors. My kids can’t seem to keep anything closed and we try so hard to keep the cats limited to certain areas. We didn’t want something that would slam the door because we didn’t want to catch a finger or paw, but it needed to close it. That’s exactly what these do. I’m very pleasantly surprised. Note- I’m only speaking for light weight interior doors. No idea how they would do on an exterior or heavy door. Installation was quick and not too bad. Had one snap back on my finger, which hurt like a bitch, but no blood or broken anything. Just be careful and use the doorframe for leverage when installing.

Did not fit any of my doors

I purchased this Spring Hinge Door Closer with high expectations, as the product description made it sound like a high-quality, easy-to-install addition to my home. Unfortunately, the reality was far from what was promised. Firstly, the installation process was a nightmare. The instructions provided were unclear, convoluted, and left out critical steps. Several pieces were also missing from the package, forcing me to make a rushed trip to the hardware store, which was both inconvenient and frustrating. The build quality of the door closer itself was subpar at best. Despite the product being touted as durable, the spring hinge started to show signs of wear and tear after just a few weeks of regular use. This is unacceptable for a product that's meant to endure daily, repetitive actions. Furthermore, the door closer's performance was far from the smooth and silent operation that was promised. The door would either slam shut with a loud, startling bang or wouldn't close fully at all, leaving a frustrating gap. This inconsistency made it unreliable and honestly a bit of a safety concern for my young children. The customer service experience, unfortunately, wasn't any better. When I reached out to address my concerns, I was met with slow responses and vague solutions that did nothing to resolve the issues I was experiencing. It's evident that customer satisfaction is not a priority for this company. All things considered, I cannot recommend this Spring Hinge Door Closer to anyone. The poor quality, ineffective performance, complicated installation, and substandard customer service make it a product to avoid. Save your time, money, and sanity, and look elsewhere for a door closer that will actually do its job.
