I was worried for a while that this book would live up to its "middle child" expectation, but once I got past the first 30% I couldn't quit reading because of Jared. I mean no one can resist the romance and fire between Lucy and Jared. Their love story and bickering kept me going until the whole story got juicy. Ended on an expected cliff hanger and I anxiously await the final installment in the trilogy. (I'm pretty sure it's a trilogy, it'd be hilarious if I wrote this review and it's not) Review: More intriguing with each page - We pick up a few months after the explosive ending from Book one. The sisters are still split and Lucy is determined to remedy that. But as time passes she also realizes how things may not be as they seem and maybe she can’t trust who she thought she could. We learn more about the plague, world order, magic and science behind the True Born, Splicer and Lester...and now a new class the Gilt. This is a fascinating dystopian world where what seems idealistic is fraught with problems and where no one really knows what is at stake. I love the description behind the true borns and would love to see drawings or visuals of them. Storm sounds so grand and the others who work with him sound exotic and quite interesting. We meet new characters in this book and I look forward to seeing what backstory they have...especially the Senator and Ali.
