can you use these when coloring in a coloring book?

I do use them as an accent or to do some shading. There's a coloring book called Midnight Garden...all the pages have a black background. Bet they'd look good on that.

Are they watercolor pencils too?

no they are just regular colored pencils.

can you use these on pastel drawings for fine details?

Yes you can. They sharpen beautifully to a super fine sharp point. I love mine...The possibilities are endless...Subtle color when used with a light touch and heavier of course with a heavier hand. Great for highlighting and blending, adds a nice shimmer where wanted. I use mine often.
