I didn't change the water when I used it and had no problems. I have a metal frame pool that uses the paper (I think ) filters and you are instructed to take the filter out while leaving the pump running.

Not too likely as is is flexible.Worked about 50% on my hot tub leak,! of 2 places.

Irene , i would use the whole bottle in ur above ground..it worked on my hot tub but that was only 600 gallons and i used half a bottle, still no leaks, great stuff this

Is it safe to use in pools with gas pool heater ( no bypass )?

Have no knowledge as my application was in a small hot tub. It DID stop the leak but required 2 small bottles. If trying it buy large bottle.
