Jacquard's Procion MX fiber reactive dye powder is best used as fabric dye for cotton, linen or other natural, plant-based fibers. It can be used with other fibers such as wool, alpaca, leather, and other protein-based fibers, however the tie dye dye solution should be mixed with either vinegar or citric acid for best results. Before application, your fabric or material should be soaked in a solution of one cup of soda ash to one gallon of water for about 20 minutes. This makes the clothing dye permanent and creates a washfast result. To get an even, brilliant color, use a ratio of one cup to 2 teaspoons of dye. This can be modified by diluting the mixture to create soft, dreamy pastels or increasing the concentration of dye to create deeper colors. The tie dye colors can also be mixed to create the perfect shade for your project! The dye powder goes a long way, as one 2/3oz jar will dye approximately 1lb of dry fabric. Once the dye is mixed, you can add it to a bottle for easy tie dyeing application, or add to a basin for dip dyeing or immersion dyeing. The traditional method of shibori tie-dye can be used as well by folding and tying your fabric into specific patterns and then applying the dye. I Know they make a dye for this. **Q: Can I use this to dye a cotton shirt that is already dyed to refresh the color?** A: Certainly. Follow great directions- I overdyed cotton yarn with great results **Q: How many hoodies will these jars dye?** A: It all depends on the size, thickness, and technique used. Ice dye process yields a Much more vibrant fabric. It also required more dye. The set that I bought here on Amazon, dyed 5 white t-shirts size 3X. There was enough dye powder left in all but 2 jars to pass on to my friend. I used the ice dye technique, where you dampen, fold, sprinkle with dye, then add ice on top.
