Want to connect old dell monitor w/existing male vga cable on monitor to new lenovo laptop with only usb-c slots. anything else needed?

This is the wrong item for you. This has a USB-A connector. You just need the same thing, only with the oval-shaped USB-C connector. The only other thing you need is a VGA cable to go from adapter to monitor.

Product not as advertised. supposedly i don’t need a driver, but not true. downloaded driver and product still doesn’t work. need tech support asap

It comes with a small CD. If you don't have a CD drive find a computer that has one and move the driver onto a flash drive. I did that and it work just fine.
