On my door the pop-out was not at the height I wanted so I cut out my own with a Dremel. **Q: Do you need to hold the spring lock open before pressing the automatic door opener, or can it remain in the open position?** A: The spring lock can remain in the open position. If you have the spring lock in the closed position you will not be able to use your automatic garage door opener. **Q: Do the screws stick out the front side of a sheet metal garage door? (I would assume so)** A: The lock screws into the frame of the garage door.
