It lays flat when I write in it and is made of a very nice (faux though it doesn't look faux) leather with a lovely imprint of an elephant on the cover. The pen holder on the side is a plus, as is the small pouch inside the back cover where I can tuck my tarot card of the day to contemplate. Could serve a multitude of note taking purposes. Not sure how durable it will be as I just got it, but as it seems so very well made I suspect it will last a long time.
