I purchased these so that my kids could help peel apples for canning. Based off of reviews, I wasn't sure how the plastic handles would hold up, but I figured the price for 3 was decent. I have to say these look and feel light and at first I thought my 4 year old would break them, but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband, whom is a big strong guy, ended up using and loving these little babies for peeking apples. We had a race to see if these peelers or our table top swirly peeler was faster and these peelers won 3 apples to one. The peelers aren't as flimsy or cheap as they appear and do a very efficient job. They rinse clean easily and store flatter in our drawer than other peelers have. I would think the only downside of this contraption is the side peeler that removes stems, that is just plastic so for our 4 bushels of apples, we just found it faster and easier to cut out apple imperfections with a knife. We ha e used them on potatoes and carrots as well. Carrots dyed them a little orange, but honestly carrots have done that to any white object, and now the kids know to only cut carrots with our green one. These aren't dishwasher safe and you can't drop them because the ceramic will break I suspect boiling will cause the ceramic to break too.Overall we love these ceramic peelers and will definitely purchase again when the time comes. It peels differently than the original one, but works very well anyway. the ceramic blade is super sharp, and it makes short work of any peeling project.
