I haven't read the instructions yet but just got busy scanning some very old ledgers at our historical society and a funeral record ledger for a local cemetery. Still haven't figured out if I can scan as a pdfs but jpegs work fine and I got a program to batch convert the jpgs into a single pdf so all is good. Preserving these very old fragile records so they are useable is going to be great for us. A great tool I'm very glad I purchased . I'm able to use my mouse to define the area I want to scan and if I need to change or tweak the size as I go it is easy to do. Not good at figuring out how to save scans in a folder but I'll get there. You just plug in the unit with usb to your computer so I'm using a small laptop that can fit on the table next to the ledger I'm scanning. Half the clutter in my house is paper and financial and medical records. . . well on my way to no more clutter! Perfect results. . . . . it will do a straight pdf or a searchable pdf - the searchable pdf takes longer to process, but that is ok. I gave tech support only three stars because I didn't need it, and haven't tried yet. . . . it was pretty easy to learn - one 10 minute YouTube vid.
