Worked great for my modem/router
Really happy with this little device. I had problems where my modem would randomly restart severing all internet for about 2 min while it would boot back up. Sometimes it would restart every few days sometimes it would go a few weeks. After a bunch of research I found the Downstream power was roughly 11-12dBmV which is in range, but I found if this number spikes it can cause modems to shutdown and restart for safety. So I decided to go all out and replace the main cable line so it is direct from outside to the modem and I put in a ground rod which is better than being attached to the water pipe (which was connected to PEX and then into the ground so no real ground connection this way). I also removed a splitter no longer in use. After setting it all up I was getting 13-14dBmV! Dam, that backfired. So I put the splitter back in for a quick fix and it brought the power back down to around 11-12dBmV. The perfect range for the power is -7 to +7 so I figured as close to 0 is best so I bought a 10dBmv unit. From reviews I expected it to drop around 8dBmV as they all seem to be a little lower then rated, but this thin dropped a solid 9.5-10dBmv! After install I was getting under 1dBmv to about 1.9 on most of the downstream channels. As of today the numbers have come up a bit, but I can't say the device did this it could be Comcast crappy equipment giving too much signal. Overall a great buy - and no my router has not restarted since. Granted its only been a few days but still working well. Also my uncorrectables are super low (the highest one is 29 after a day and a half of run time), which is a major improvement and I currently have 0 uncorrectables which is unheard of for my situation. Prior to this device I was getting higher numbers on both. Also an unintended benefit is my upstream power went up to 42-45dBmV so that signal is even better (though I never noticed a problem with upstream). As for the speed, I am still hitting roughly the same for speed tests, but the speed use to gradually rise over the course of the test. Now it just hits a high number and pretty much stays right there. Another benefit is my SNR (signal to noise ratio) increased and I now have all 32 channels at 38.6 or above with a few channels even hitting over 40. Prior to this I was around 34-36. If your power is high determine how much you want to reduce and buy the correct device. Don't just randomly buy this thinking it will fix your problems, do some research and check your power first and if possible run a new cable line (a quality tri shield or quad shield) and get rid of splitter to see if this helps as these are more important than just reducing power. Also check your ground as noise can enter the cable from power lines and not drain if the ground is bad or not connected. If you then need to reduce power and you are at or around +8 buy a device rated for 8. If you are at +12 then buy a 12. This device works great when given optimal opportunity to work.

it actually works
works for lowering high dBmV. my downstream dBmV was like 11.5 to 12 dBmV, after I installed this thing it's now hovering around 1.5 dBMv to 1.7 dBmV

Did the trick along with a 6 dB
As a lot of others, I bought this to get the really hot signal coming in from my video provider to my TiVo's down to the SNR sweet spot of 37 dB or below. I started out at 41 to 42 dB on almost all tuners on my Roamios. Like someone else said these attenuators do the job, but the 10 dB really doesn't drop a full 10 DB. If yours is really a hot signal, then do yourself a favor and also by a 6 dB and use them back to back. The 10 dB dropped me from 41-42 down to about 37-38, but adding the 6 dB in addition got me to a signal in the upper 70's low 80's and a nice 33-35 dB on all tuners. Kind of interesting that the 6 dB attenuator seemed to drop about the same amount of dB as the 10's. Either way if your signal is really hot, just buy one of each in case you need them. At most you've wasted $3-$4 if you don't need them. ;-)

Comcast TV Cable Card issue
I put two of these in series to 100% fix the problem. The perfect fix was one 20dB attenuator pad, which I used for a second cable card. Good fix for Comcast Cable Card in TiVo—the cable signal needed to be attenuated to remove the pixelation problem. After weeks of proper operation, the issue appeared. The cable tech said they are boosting signal power to accommodate new, higher-speed internet subscribers on Comcast.

Could not be happier w/ purchase
Working fantastic for my cable/internet connection. Before this accessory, my cable modem was reporting anywhere from a +7db to +12db power download, with a 40-44 db range upstream power. I had many corrected and uncorrectable octects for my taste, and noticed my pages would sometimes take 10-15 seconds to load. Streaming would be sometimed inturrupted, even with my gigabit internet. With this attenuator pad, I am now receiving downstream power on all 32 channels from -1 to +0.5 (which is perfect!), and upstream power from 48 to 50 upstream power on the upstream channels, also perfect range according to several sources. I don't have any lag on streaming and pages load within 1 to 2 seconds on my mobile device. For reference my SNR (signal to noise ratio) is at a steady 38 dB (this did not change, attenuates the signal power only). As far as correctable octets, there are virtually none! Even my internet speed tests seem improved. Before this, I had called my cable ISP provider a few times to report issues but they would check levels and could not find a problem. I was even having some problems with my Tivo box pixelating on occasion; this problem was also eliminated. After 2 months, I'm still receiving the same signal power and great performance. Just be sure to check your cable modem status page and make sure you get the correct attenuator pad, or it may cause problems.

Exactly what I needed!
I purchased a few of these in different strengths because I've been dealing with my signal strength being too high and overloading my HDHomeRun tuner, and they've all been great! I had to stack multiple strengths to experiment and get to the right amount, and I'll probably buy another from this brand in the proper amount to have a single attenuator instead of a ridiculously long stack hanging off.
