Perfect for customizing your mat board and making decorative frames. To make architectural models, use this 45 degree cutter to cut mat boards into 45 degree bevel edges and join the edges together for a neat corner. Blade depth can be adjusted depending on the thickness of the material to be cut. This convenient and economical blade has four cutting edges so when it's time to change your blade, simply turn the blade to an unused side. Non-slip rubber base is included to assist in keeping straight edge in place when cutting. Easy-to-grip handle fits hand comfortably for stability and control. Blade retracts automatically when not in use. High quality blade is made from chromium and tungsten added carbon tool steel for higher abrasion resistance and produced through multiple stages of precise process to obtain the ultimate sharpness and optimum edge-retention. Good to make decorative frames for pictures and photos, to make architectural models, and to frame artwork, etc. Made in Japan.

Review: Not great for large framing! - This gets the job done but if you are planning on doing a large matte, it is a challenge. I used it to matte a jersey frame and it took a lot of patience and an extra hand to cut the large square. The final product turned out nice though. See picture (I cut the large mattes). If you are planning to cut small mattes, this is perfect. This is definitely not for someone wanting to cut a lot of mattes or large mattes though!

**Q: push or pull**
A: Push but I returned it. It was not good

**Q: Does it only cut at a 45 degree angle, or does it cut 90 degrees also?**
A: My experience is that it does not cut at 45 degrees, but probably 38 degrees (I didn’t measure it but it certainly was not 45).  This device has only one cutting angle. 

There is a similar pink plastic cutter from China that is designed to cut at both 45 and 90 degree using standard box cutter blades.  It’s available on Amazon ( I was tempted to purchase it but didn’t want to wait the extended shipping time).

**Q: Does this only cut corners or can it be used for straight edges?  Will it do the whole mat, not just the corners?**
A: The tool can be used for the entire matting, but it will not turn corners. The framer must completely turn the mat to cut the next edge.

**Q: First time using your mat cutter. How do I get the blade into position? It arrived raised, and I think stuck.**
A: You have to turn the small gray dial to raise or lower the blade. Once the blade is in the lower position, press down on the big gray dial to actually push the blade out into your mat board.

This gets the job done but if you are planning on doing a large matte, it is a challenge. I used it to matte a jersey frame and it took a lot of patience and an extra hand to cut the large square. The final product turned out nice though. See picture (I cut the large mattes). If you are planning to cut small mattes, this is perfect. This is definitely not for someone wanting to cut a lot of mattes or large mattes though!

I waited far too long to buy one. Being able to cut picture mats yourself is very satisfying. The included blade is wicked sharp. Slight overcuts are not noticeable in final mat cuts. Four-cornered blade is good for longevity, but be very careful when replacing the blade. I cut myself the first time when popping it open by being careless. The cutter feels durable and nicely weighted. Cuts are cleanest with multiple shallow passes, so straightedge is a must; preferably one that can be clamped or taped in place. Housing includes guide marks to help align the blade with your reference line.
