desertcart.com: Introvert Doodles: An Illustrated Look at Introvert Life in an Extrovert World (Introvert Doodles Series): 9781507200018: Wilson, Maureen Marzi: Books Review: A clever, cute, insightful look into the world of introverts! - There are times -- especially when I feel like hiding from the world -- that need an extra reason to smile...one of the ways I've done that for the past month? Reading comics in this delightful book. I've been a fan of Marzi's work on Facebook and the web for quite awhile now, so when I saw she had a book coming out, I knew I needed it. Though so many people equate being an extrovert with being anti-social, Marzi's work does a great job of showing that not all introverts are the same, and that many are just very selective with their time, energy, and attention when it comes to being around others. It's always been hard to explain to people...but her cartoons have definitely helped! Cutely drawn, witty, and clearly created from a place of understanding, these cartoons will warm an introvert's soul and maybe help those who love introverts understand them a bit better. I really love that this book is a collection, meaning I can just randomly open to a page and not feel like I'm missing some sequential theme. Plus, the humorous little ways in which Marzi presents her art is fantastic -- whether it's illustrating a conversation or depicting reasons for introversion in a handy pie chart, readers are reminded that they may enjoy being alone, but they're not alone in this world...there are those who get it. She's even included a beautifully written (and cutely illustrated) introduction that explains the creation of "Introvert Doodles", the genesis of the wonderful online community her work has spawned, and a reminder that "introverts are awesome!" Oh! Annnnd it's hardback! I don't know why I appreciate that so much, but I do! Basically, it's like a turtle (and some introverts) tough on the outside, but inside, a sweet, comforting place to take a break from the world around us. Introvert? Read these comics. Extrovert who loves an introvert? Read these comics. In short...read these comics...it's a great reminder that though we all connect with people differently, we do connect. That thought warms me like a cozy blanket or a delicious cup of coffee. Review: Marzi's humorous illustrations are brilliant, informative, and even therapeutic! - I discovered Maureen "Marzi" Wilson's captivating "Introvert Doodles" via social media in mid-2016. "Finally," I thought, "somebody truly understands what it's like to be me!" After learning that a collection of her fun tweets was being published, I pre-ordered the book immediately and am delighted to have it in my hands now. Although Marzi certainly isn't the first person to write about personality types which are more introverted than outgoing, she might be the first to do so in the form of comic strip-like illustrations. But don't let her chosen medium fool you. Marzi's artful humor offers every bit as much insight and brilliant observation as a scholarly essay into what it's like being an introvert — in a charming book that's a whole lot more fun to read than any essay. And while "Introvert Doodles" is wholesome and absolutely appropriate for readers of any age (after all, what child doesn't like to page through colorful, humorous drawings), my guess is that the first audience Marzi had in mind are adult introverts who, whether they've been trying to navigate our loud and extroverted world for 25 years or 75 years, have experienced countless times the many awkward situations she aptly illustrates. The humor found within "Introvert Doodles" is potentially both informative and therapeutic. How? Three ways to use Marzi's book immediately come to mind: 1. Every introvert should have this as a coffee table book — THE coffee table book! 2. Fellow introverts, want to provide a friend or loved one (especially those who are naturally extroverted) a special insight into what it's like being you? Buy a copy of "Introvert Doodles," mark the pages which remind you of yourself (or, even better, of situations you shared with that friend or family member), and then give the book as a gift. Don't forget to write a personal message inside the front cover. 3. Think you've spotted someone (friend, relative, acquaintance, coworker, or even a love interest) who you think might be an introvert who isn't yet comfortable in his/her own skin? Gift a copy of Marzi's book as a conversation starter. Inside the cover, I suggest you write a message something like "Each of us is unique, special, and worthy. We are all absolutely fine, just the way we are." Because those are exactly the warm feelings that Marzi gives to me every time I recognize myself in the pages of "Introvert Doodles." Thanks, Marzi!

Funny and relatable for an introvert
I wasn't familiar with the author or her work, but preordered this book on a whim based on a few example pages, and I'm glad I did, because I loved it. As a fellow introvert myself, I found it extremely relatable and, at times, laugh-out-loud hilarious. The book is not just funny, though, it has some moments of introspection dedicated to make the reader feel better about themselves. This book is the perfect gift. Give it to an introvert, and they'll identify with the content. Give it to an extrovert so they'll finally understand what being an introvert is like, and they'll stop getting on our case. As the preface states, it's very easy for extroverts to believe there's something WRONG with introvert people just because we don't have the same tastes, priorities or goals they have. If you're an introvert, understand: there's nothing wrong with you (well, not because of THAT anyway). Get this book and you'll notice how many people just like you are out there. And we can finally all stand together. ... But, you know, in the comfort of our own homes... without actually having to talk to each other in person.

Interesting Perspective
I enjoyed this light-hearted (but poignant) look at an introvert’s inner life. Though I am an extrovert, there are a number of introverts I love and want to understand. This book helped me understand them a little better.

IF YOU ARE AN INTROVERT OR KNOW OR LOVE ONE, YOU NEED THIS BOOK! IT'S AWESOME AND SO ON-POINT!!
Yep, I'm another LOVER of this book! I have to agree with all the other reviewers who say "this book is about me!" It is such a feeling of validation and as Suan Cain said... "self-affirming" to see (in fun, graphic cartoon-style....can't think of anything better!) the thoughts of a introvert like myself so accurately depicted; everything Marzi describes is "spot-on." I am a 61 year old introvert who has lived a wonderful life, but who, until recent years after finding and loving so many books on introversion, didn't really understand or realize what made me so different. I knew I'd rather stay home than party, loved being by myself, did a lot of introspection, didn't particularly need or want much social interaction, etc. etc. but didn't know why I was like that when everyone else seemed to be just the opposite. After much research and reading on the subject, I finally "get it." I truly found so much about this book that seemed to be written exactly for me. I really loved the Introvert in her Natural Habitat; and I could have been the model for that picture! Right down to the remote and the cat! Thanks to Marzi! She is a very creative, charming, insightful and inspiring introvert to whom I extend my sincere gratitude for offering such a wonderful book; to re-read, love, lend to family and friends to educate them, etc. Thank you!!! I would love it if Marzi did a Volume 2!

Absolutely Adorable!!!
Marzi Wilson captures the essence of being an introvert in this fabulous collection of comics - some can be found online at [...] while others are totally new! She shares her daily thoughts, feelings, struggles, fears, and definitely her strengths in such a humorous yet very relatable way. I love her alone time, awkward conversations, pie charts, lists, and even an " Introvert Bingo" at the end! There's lovely advice on how to gain the trust of the beloved introvert in your life, for those who don't quite understand the unique qualities of this special group of people. As an introvert, I greatly identify with many of the traits addressed in this sweet book, so it's nice to know I'm not alone! Marzi is even involved with her facebook page! So if you are a fan of her work and aren't too shy to ask a question, she will respond within reason, of course. Let the bookworm in you add a delightful read to your shelves! Highly recommended 🤓

While a fun read for us introverts
Marzi knows introverts well and translates that knowledge into descriptive, witty cartoons. I can relate to almost every single one. From scoping out the exits at parties to the inevitable brain stoppage when collaborating with groups at work, her drawings resonate with the true introvert. Even my 13 year old daughter (also an introvert) picked it up and was immediately hooked. While a fun read for us introverts, this will also make a great teaching tool and discussion starter for the extroverts in your life. Leave it on your coffee table and see what happens, that is, if you actually have visitors. ;)
