Why is this product showing a relative discount when the price at the apple store is $79? Where did the $84.99 came from?

Because it is not an original Apple charger but a generic charger (I know because I ordered it directly from Amazon and received a knockoff)

Is there a generic equivalent for this charger? Is so, what is it?

I think there are some companies that make equivalent versions, but in my opinion they’re not worth it. This one isn’t either as Apple won’t honor the one year warranty on a product purchased through Amazon, and Amazon will screw you over if it breaks outside of their return window (we know from experience). I know they’re expensive, but knock offs aren’t that much cheaper. Save yourself the potential for heartache and just buy one from Apple directly.
