T5 Adventure Hat

This Tilley T5 is my fifth Tilley hat. I've long been a big fan of Tilley hats. This Tilley is my first that is not an Airflo model. I love the medium brim that wears so well in many environs throughout the year. Mine arrived from Amazon in a flat package but the hat popped up into shape immeditely and perfectly despite the packaging. This is thanks to the great design of the hat which uses a thin wire around the brim which keeps it's shape forever. I like to keep a fedora-like pinch in the crown on my Tilleys and this new T5 takes and holds the pinch especially well. It is a excellent quality hat and a joy to own and wear.

This is the hat that started it for me. I was enamored with the styling of this hat and how it looked on others. But when I was ready to purchase, it wasn't available and I settled for the LTM6 Airflow. The LTM6 is a good hat in itself, but the broad brim is a little too broad for me. I still longed for the T5. Once on sale, it was a no brainer. I love the sun protection and the sturdy construction from the cotton duck fabric. You cannot go wrong with a 4-inch tall crown and a medium brim. There is an Ultralight version if you prefer, but that's like buying a square headlight jeep.

This is my second Tilley hat. I now have a summer and a winter hat. The hats are durable, very comfortable, and the Tilley warranty is wonderful. Thankfully I've never had to use the warranty. These hats will last me the rest of my life. I highly recommend them.

Wonderful hat, but not the color I ordered.

I feel like one of the people in the cute Tilley promotional stories. I admired one of these hats worn by a Canadian colleague when I was doing graduate field research in 1990. When I asked, she raved about it. In the subsequent twenty years, I went through numerous kinds and brands of field hats before finally forking over the bucks for a Tilley T5. This is the real thing. The brim does not flap or droop in the wind, and the front-and-back cords keep it from blowing away even in a gale. It keeps off a light rain, and doesn't mind getting wet. The dark underside of the brim reduces reflected glare, and while it can get warm in the desert or when you are working hard, I haven't yet wanted to trade it for anything lighter. It crushes flat for packing, and stretches right back into shape when you pull it out of your bag or pack. I measured my head according to Tilley's instructions, and that size of hat fits me perfectly. Don't spend two decades messing around with a series of mediocre alternatives, like I did. Just buy one of these now. You won't be disappointed, and won't ever need another hat for work or recreation outdoors. UPDATE: I bought this hat in 2010 and wore it virtually every day I was outside through 2016 (yes, it took a while for me to get around to writing the review above, but by then I was well informed by experience). It got soaked in sweat, blasted by the sun, and hand-washed countless times. The cotton cloth finally started to fall apart. It developed a growing hole, and during its last wash, tore badly. I was very sorry to see it go, but really cannot fault the hat after over six years of hard use. Tilley advertises that they will replace the hat if it ever wears out; just mail the remains to them with $8.50 postage for the replacement. They mean it. I got my new replacement in six days, no questions asked. That is old-school integrity worthy of respect.

The hat is great, as all Tillys are. However, I ordered a 7 1/2 but a 7 3/8th came. Unfortunately this was a gift and they say it fits. I hope it gets used but I fear they are just being kind. Happy with the product but not the service.

Tilley makes high quality and comfortable hats. My first Tilly is over 30 years old and starting to look it's age so I use it for Yard work. Nice thing Tilley still has the same model. Great Hat and made to last!

Perfect fit based on Tilley's website size chart. Workmanship of the stitching on the hat is perfect. I would recommend the T5 for those with a smaller head/face as this hat has one of the narrowest brims in Tilley's line of hats.

I ordered from Philip Morris as they had the best price I could find online, and it was included with 2-day Prime delivery. Thought I'd ordered size 7 1/8. When the dispatch notification came through it said 7 1/4. Too late to cancel but thought I'd check the return options (returns are FREE!) and clicking on return for the order said to return size 7 1/8. Left a bit confused thought I'd see what size arrived. The hat arrived the following day (a day early)! It was 7 1/4... which is absolutely perfect! The hat itself is what I was expecting from Tilley having read numerous reviews on different sites on all types of Tilley hats. This is my first Tilley thought. The T5 has the perfect medium brim for everyday wear. It looks large enough to provide all round sun protection without being self-consciously over sized as I felt the T3, LTM6, etc were. The brim is stiff enough to retain shape though pliable. The hat arrived flat packed but came to life as soon as the crown was popped up. I'm already loving this hat!!

Use this all the time outside. The wide brow helps keep you cool and protects well against the sun. Have even used in rain and works great.
