Originally dubbed Godzilla, after the scaly, green film star with an equally huge reputation as the newfound band's sound, the brothers Duplantier - guitars/vocalist Joe and Drummer Mario - and fellow Frenchman Michel Labadie on bass and Christian Andreu on guitar, quickly released several demos, ultimately changing the band's name and independently releasing the first Gojira album, "Terra Incognita" in 2001, offering up a brief glimpse into the giant Gojira would eventually become through persistent hard work and years of toiling in the metal underground. Now remastered and for the very first time available in LP version with 3 exclusive live bonuses, Gojira's "Terra Incognita" album, seen by their fans as the band's ultimate classic, will undoubtedly draw major interest worldwide as the band is destroying festivals across Europe! Review: My Absolute Favorite Album - Gojira's Terra Incognita is a great album. I love it because it is so different from any other metal album that I have listened to. The songs have a unique range, by this I mean they can start out heavy and totally metal, but all the sudden go to a more calm, brooding (but still metal) sound. And better yet, they never lose their musicality, all the songs can get stuck in your head, they don't have a single song on this album that sounds just like the one before it. There's something for almost all metal fans: death metal blast beats, growling vocals, screaming vocals, kind of normal vocals, plenty of galloping guitar triplets, clean/distorted guitar, metal lyrics that sometimes don't make any sense, and wicked double bass pedal. If you are one of those people that need to place bands under specific categories, there really is no way to categorize this band, you just have to listen to them to know if you like them. A lot of people say they are a band you either love or hate, so it's best to listen to the songs from the album on Youtube before buying. Gojira is definitely one of the best things to come out of France in a long time (along with Gorod, but that's a very different band). So check them out! Review: A great album for one of my favorite bands - I didn't even realize that this album existed since it is an earlier album by the band. It is more on the heavy side but it still has that signature Gojira sound that I really enjoy. I'm glad that I found this and it completes my discography collection for them. If you like the Gojira sound and don't mind the more heavy side I definitely recommend picking this up!!

Nice debut!!!
Let's start by saying this: I don't like to dissect cd's track by track. I don't purchase cds for individual songs. I look for the overall flow of the album. OK, now that that's out of the way, this is what you need to know about this disc. It rocks!!! Terra Incognita is a wonderful precursor to what is to come from Gojira. Chock full of wicked riffs. Speedy at times and sensational moshing. The intuitive interplay between the brothers Duplantier (percussion and guitar) is fantastic. And what's this I hear? Bass lines? And damn good ones at that. I read reviews of this band that question why they would add certain slower pieces to their music. Why question it? The percussion based offerings (mallet stuFFz) are just fine and fit into the overall sound of the disc. Stop trying to pigeonhole these guys!!! They are creative and a big step above lesser bands who only try to be "the heaviest band ever". This is what sets them apart. They are secure with their heaviness and not afraid to put their genius out there for everyone to hear. No matter where it may take them.

Gojira - Terra incognita
The first time I saw the French band Gojira was as the opening band for In Flames , and I found the amazing . I have listened to all their CDs from then , and I have also seen their DVD . "Terra incognita" is my last CD , but I think it was the first that they recorded . I highly recommend it . Their music is strong and agressive , with a great force in songs and also in lyrics , very compromised with the planet .

I only wish I discovered this album when it actually released, because I've been listening to metal since about 1999 and this album is blowing my mind now having only found it at the age of 37 lol. I love how heavy and different it is from anything else I've ever heard pretty much. I like how they slow and speed up the tempo, and add interesting sounds like squeels etc lots of heavy drumming. The CD quality is much better sounding than digital versions imo

Was not expecting this when I put the needle down. I only started with L'Enfant Sauvage so when the sounds from this hit my ears at first I was surprised. Such a great album! This band is amazing!
