Do these have a gross plastic/chemical smell upon opening? I find that some afforadable ones dont smell pleasant.

Yes. I bought two for my kids and the smell of chemical was so overwhelming I had to hose down the mats and leave them outside overnight to air out. And even then they are still giving off an odor, just not as strong. Still gross, no way that’s healthy.
