Not exactly sure how it heats water better (more efficiently, more quickly?) but just clarifying info based on Presto representative reported information." While metals do conduct electricity some metals do it better i.e. faster. Aluminum conducts electricity faster so it is considered a "Good conductor" of electricity like copper. Stainless steel conducts electricity very slow so it's considered a "Poor conductor" of electricity. It's the reason stainless steel pots & pans have either aluminum or copper in the bottom base. Stainless Steel starts conducting well at extremely high temperatures of 800F degrees plus, which would make burnt coffee. it is unfortunate that the base is not layered inside with copper like a stainless steel pan as an option. (Thanks one and all for your replies.)** A: I found this to be the best method for filtration and eliminating grounds in the pot. 1) Use 12 cup basket filters. 2) Wet the inside bottom of the basket and run water through the percolator stem. 3) Center paper filter over basket stem and punch wet percolator stem down through filter and hole in basket stem. 4) Push filter to bottom of wet basket to adhere. 5) Drizzle water from tap along sides of paper filter/basket and press ruffled paper to flatten against the wet sides of basket. 6) Add desired amount of coffee and start brewing.
