There is bright white light, a softer white and a mixture of the two. It is easy to cycle between the options using the button on the handle. The magnifying glass takes three AAA batteries, I've put some rechargeable ones in and they have worked fine. I'd say the only thing that would improve this product is a small case to protect the glass, although I found one in the house which I'd been using for something else and which is better than nothing.
