The Protectli Vault FW2B is a compact firewall micro appliance featuring an Intel Celeron J3060 dual-core processor at 1.6 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and a 32GB mSATA SSD. Equipped with AES-NI hardware encryption and dual Intel i211 Gigabit Ethernet ports, it offers reliable, secure network routing optimized for pfSense and OPNsense. While ideal for sub-gigabit speeds and small business or remote work setups, it may bottleneck on full gigabit internet connections.

CPU too slow for Gigabit internet.
Not fast enough for my gigabit internet connection This is still a decent bit of kit for slower connections. It is well made, runs OPNsense fine, and would probably be perfectly adequate for sub-500 Mbps internet or lighter routing duties. However, it was not fast enough for my gigabit FTTP connection. Under sustained downloads, the CPU became the bottleneck and hit 100%, limiting throughput well below the full gigabit speed. In normal browsing this is easy to miss, but with larger downloads, multiple video streams, or other sustained traffic, the limitation becomes obvious. If you are buying this for OPNsense/pfSense on a fast connection, especially gigabit WAN, check the CPU carefully first. For basic routing and moderate speeds it is fine, but I would not recommend it for full gigabit internet.

Great hardware for OPNsense
I run a home router on this device using OPNsense. It works perfectly for my purposes, although I think it is perhaps slightly expensive for a mini PC with a fairly dated CPU (a J3060, which is a 2016 CPU). It does however seem to be very stable and more than powerful enough for a basic router/firewall. It might struggle to run more sophisticated IPS/IDS systems. It also doesn't support some newer instruction sets e.g. AVX which could be a limiting factor for some use-cases.

Industrial strength networkprotection for your home with pfsense and Adguard and much much more
Exceed my expectations. Home network is much better with better speeds and less intrusions.

tutto ok
ho perso il conto di quanti protectli abbia già preso. Su tutti ho messo pfsense e non ho nessun problema

Works great running pfSense
Solidly built, works great. Two points you should note while initially getting it to boot BEFORE pfSense is installed: 1. It didn't like my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo - long BEEP at POST. Dug my one wired keyboard left out of the spare equipment bin and then got past that. 2. It didn't like the 1960x1024 monitor I first attached and would display anything during boot. Switched to an old 1280x1024 monitor and it worked. Neither a keyboard or monitor are needed once you have pfSense installed and configured, but thought I'd pass this along in case someone else hits the same issues.

Application for residential
Honestly I would have never of known to get this equipment if it wasn’t for my IT guy that does our business. He told me what to buy and took care of me. Took him a couple hours to fully set this firewall appliance along with unifi switch and other goodies for my home. Security is a lot more extensive than what you get from your standard modem box. WiFi signal is always great and no issues. What’s great with my set up is that I can disconnect it all and set it up wherever I want and it’ll work perfect. Anyways, get this and someone who knows what they are doing and you’ll have a sweet setup for home office.
